It was a new day as the sun had just crept over the horizon. The golden rays shot straight through the slit of the curtain, onto my tired shut eyes.
Gently opening my eyes, I was staring up towards the checkered ceiling of Maia's house. Guess today will be the last time waking up in this bed until after selection...
I will be spending much of my time in the dorm rooms, so I will only be able see Maia once or twice a year.
"Y/N! Your breakfast is ready!" Maia called from the other room. Lumbering my way towards the kitchen, I was pleased to be greeted with the smell of bacon and eggs. I should probably savour this meal... chances are that food at the selection process is going to be dog-shit.
As I entered the kitchen, Maia turned around and chuckled to herself. "What's so funny...?" I asked miserably. "Have you seen your hair?!" Maia giggled. "Huh...?"
Using the reflection of a spoon, I checked myself. She was right... I was a mess. My hair was sticking in all sorts of directions. "Here is your breakfast, sleepy head," Maia said she put the plate of sizzling bacon in front of me. "Hope you enjoy Y/N! I want to make sure your on a full belly," "Thank, Maia,"
Maia suddenly looked a little off. "... M-Maia... are you okay..?" "Oh- yes! Sorry to bother you..." I've known Maia for too long to know something was up with her. I placed my hand on her shoulder so she would feel more comfortable, but she looked a little surprised. "You can tell me anything, Maia,"
She let herself smile. "Y/N... I know I am not your parent or anything... but if you want... you can call me Mom. B-But that's only if your comfortable with it of course..."
I saw the look in Maia's eyes. She raised me for so long. Fed me, trained me and helped me. She is the only person I feel that I could trust with my life right now. "Okay, Mom," Her eyes sparkled, as she beamed a bigger smile towards me. "Eat up, Y/N. You don't want the eggs getting cold!"
-20 minutes later-
After taking my time with breakfast, it was time to finally pack my bags. Maia provided me with a big rucksack, one she took from the police station.
She provided me with enough clothes to suffice for about 1 week, until I would have to wash everything. Checking all the drawers and cupboards to see if I missed anything, I found the bracelet that I was given years ago; still shiny and clean. Packing it in the pocket of the rucksack, I zipped everything up.
Maia entered my room. "Wow, Y/N. You really brought everything huh..." she said as she inspected the spotless room. "We should get going. It will look bad if your late," "Mhm,"
-30 minutes later-
Maia had hired a horse and carriage to bring us to the selection zone, which was located just outside the edge of the forest. As we got closer towards the selection zone, I noticed more and more potential Warrior candidates like me on their way.
It's going to be me who inherits one of the 10 titans... if I miss out, I will never forgive myself. These candidates might as well leave right now. Nothing will stand in my way.
A few minutes later, we arrived at the selection zone. I hopped off the carriage and stared at the place which will soon decide my life. It was a large area of forestry, with small little cabins dotted around the area. I assumed those would be our dorm rooms. The place was dull, with low lighting and a tense atmosphere.
