"Good morning," Blaise greeted Draco.

"Mm," Draco mumbled, groggy from being just woken up.

"Wake up!" Blaise said, and yanked Draco's blanket.

"What the fuck, Blaise?!?" Draco growled. "You better have a good reason to have me up at five in the morning!"

Blaise nodded. "Get dressed, I signed us up to help decorate for the Halloween party,"

"You're joking, right?" he asked.

"Nope."

Draco groaned, and despite his body's protest to go back to his warm bed, he got dressed and went down to the main hallway.

"They decorate the whole school?" he asked.

Blaise nodded. "It's cool, we've done it every year."

"We?" Draco asked.

"Hey," Pansy exclaimed, drawing out the 'y'. "I spent a lot of last night finishing up our costumes!!"

"Cool," Draco said. "Why do you do this dumb decorating every year?"

"Because it's fun, you introverted troll," she replied. "And, Potter also does it."

Draco felt his face heat up. He groaned at his two friends grinning. "Ugh, you knew!" he growled.

"You two are on field duty," Pansy said.

"No," Draco whined. "You can't be serious!"

Blaise pointed to a paper hung on the wall, and Draco stormed up to it, and grumbled when his and Potter's names were indeed on the same line.

"You should talk to him," Blaise suggested.

"Nooo," Draco protested. "Please let me switch."

"C'mon, you've got this!" Pansy said encouragingly. "Now go," she said, and when Draco didn't move, she shoved him. "Go!"

Draco walked out onto the field and saw Potter pulling things from a box. Draco slowed down and leaned against the fence. He squeezed his eyes shut and mustered up fake confidence to get through it.

"So," he began. "You do this every year, huh?"

Potter's head snapped up, and he beamed at Draco, who flushed a bright red. Holy shit, Potter's smile was amazing, especially directed at him.

"Yeah, I like Halloween," he replied, handing Draco a garland to hang. "One time a year when you can be anyone else for a whole night."

Draco climbed the latter, and felt a hand on his lower leg. He stumbled a bit (why the hell was Potter touching his leg?).

"These latters aren't to be trusted," Potter said, laughing.

Draco grumbled, hooking the garland up.

"Do you have someone?" Draco asked, and quickly clarified. "Who usually helps you with the decorating?"

Potter hummed as Draco stepped down. "Nope, nobody," he said quietly. "I usually do this on my own."

For a good five minutes they both decorated in silence, probably stuck in their own thoughts.

"So, uh, what's your costume gonna be?" Potter asked him, nudging his shoulder. (Since when had they become friends?)

"You'll have to wait and see," Draco replied (since when did he talk directly to the Gryffindor?).

"Aren't you gonna ask me what I'm gonna be?" Potter asked.
