"Oh, look at you!" Pansy gushed. "The uniform looks good on you, unlike Theo Nott over there."

Draco fiddled with his tie. "I've never thought of wearing green before," he said thoughtfully.

Blaise hummed. "You do seem too emo for that,"

Draco shoved him, causing Blaise to spill his milk. He let out a noise of protest, and Draco just shrugged.

"Not my problem, Blah-say," Draco said teasingly.

Draco laughed. He had only met these weirdos yesterday, and they were already so close. As it turned out, Blaise was Draco's roommate, which he was happy about, because if he had to room with some creep he wouldn't be able to sleep.

He looked over to the Gryffindor table and snapped his head back to his own table as he saw Potter smiling at him.

Draco put his head on the table. "He keeps smiling at me," he hissed.

Pansy laughed. "He's really trying," she said.

"Yeah? Well, the popular ones are always such snobs," he replied sourly, lifting up his head. "I don't want to be his friend."

"Hello," a girl said. "I'm Hermione Granger."

Draco looked up to see a brunette standing at their table (Blaise had been right, she was easy on the eyes).

"Good morning," he replied, not sure what she wanted.

"You should consider joining your House's debate team," she said.

"Why?" he asked.

"You seem very stubborn, and that will get you far in the debating world," she said, and then turned around and walked away.

"I..." Draco began. "Should I be offended or flattered?"

Pansy rested her face on her hand. "She does that," she said.

"Pans, you've got to do something about that," Blaise told her.

"What?" Draco asked.

"Pansy's been pining over Granger for a whole year," Blaise stated.

"I have not been pining," Pansy argued. "And besides, let me pine. I'll get over her."

"Eventually," Blaise said.

"Yes, eventually," Pansy repeated.

"So what do we have planned we doing for Halloween?" Blaise asked.

"I don't think I'm going," Draco said.

Pansy gasped dramatically. "Why not?"

He shrugged. "Not my cup of tea, I guess."

Pansy elbowed him. "Come on, it'll be fun. I have ideas-" she taunted.

Draco hummed. "I have to go get a book for Psych, so I'll see you later, yeah?" he said, waving to his friends.

It was annoying that he wasn't told ahead of time that he'd need a textbook, he would've bought one. But the library would have one. Probably. He wandered the isles (because he didn't know where anything was and was too stubborn (thanks, Granger) to ask), and eventually found the psychology books.

"Hey."

Draco startled at the sound of a voice. Between the gaps in the shelves stood Potter, who walked around to face him. What the hell, Draco thought.

"Are you stalking me?" Draco accused.

Potter's face turned red. "I-No!" he replied. "I am here for a book on..." he pulled a book off the shelf. "How to potty train babies...? Why do we have this book?"

Draco rolled his eyes, walking to another isle. "Likely story, Potter."

"Why don't you like me?" Potter asked.

"I never said that," Draco said. His eyes met Potter's for a second but he quickly looked at something else, feeling a blush creep onto his face.

"So why don't you ever wanna talk to me?" Potter asked.

Draco turned away, not answering. He checked out the book he needed and walked away without saying goodbye.

At dinner that night, Draco had the worst realization. He choked on his (lemon) water, and Pansy looked at him, alarmed.

"Are you okay?" she asked him.

"Uh, yeah," he replied. "Fine."

But he wasn't, he really wasn't. He hadn't been able to stop thinking about Potter since they first met yesterday, and now he figured out that it wasn't just because he was annoying as fuck, it was because he was crushing on him. Oh hell no, he thought. They had just met, how the fuck did Draco already have a crush on him?

He hated it.
