Chapter 4. Lies and False Hopes
I woke up without a sound and noticed Vlad had left the bed. I arose from the black satin and walked towards the window. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. I was watching the soldiers intently. Blood splattered from bodies, corpses were thrown to dust, and thousands of stakes arose and were plunged into the ground. Bodies atop the stakes slid down at an insanely slow pace. My eyes widened at what the prince proceeded to do. Ever so slowly, he caught a drop of crimson liquid on his tongue that was sliding down the impalement stake. A hand covered my mouth before I could say something.
"Princess. That was not something you should've been watching." A male voice said slyly. I stopped breathing and turned to face a young man. His beauty was unbearable.
"I am Radu, young princess." He kissed my hand and gazed out the window a moment. Something about this man made me not want to trust him.
"Nice to meet you." I said curtly.
"Why the unpleasant attitude, Princess? Is the Prince treating you horribly?" Radu asked, raising an eyebrow.
"He's treating me fine." Why should I explain myself to this stranger.
"You can leave with me? If he is treating you wrong. Come with me Princess. It is safer with me." Radu said grasping my hand too tight. I sucked in a quick breath of air and let it out in a hiss. For looking like a pretty boy, he had a strong grip. Not as strong as Vlad's though.
"If you'll kindly let go sir, I won't have to call for the guards." I said angrily. Radu immediately let go of my hand and glared at me.
"You'll regret not coming with me, beautiful Princess. My brother is not known for being kind." I stood frozen. His brother? I almost followed him out, until I heard angry roars of "How dare you" and "Did you touch her?" I froze in my spot and slowly returned the bed. From there I could hear swords clash and angry slaps echo throughout the chamber. Footsteps rushed towards the chamber where Vlad and I slept. The prince walked in to see me sitting innocently on the bed glancing about the room. When I looked at him, his black hair was a mess, pale skin lightly flushed, and light green eyes turned a deep shade of jade. I didn't bother saying anything when he rushed in and held me as tight as he could. I couldn't breathe and I started to feel numb, but cold. Vlad let go when I started squirming for air.
"My apologies, princess." He said immediately. "I imagine you met my brother. Radu." He spat the name out like it was acid. I couldn't blame him. "He isn't the smartest. Or the strongest. All he has is his beauty. Which is no where near yours. That's why he is plotting to take you from me." Vlad said tiredly.
"You're tired. What time did you awake?" I asked brushing his hair out. His hair was just about as long as mine. It felt feather soft and was fairly thick. I quite enjoyed myself.
"It was still night when I arose, my darling." He sighed tiredly. I felt bad for the prince. He must feel like the world is on his shoulders. I kept brushing his hair and then weight suddenly fell onto my lap. It was the prince, he had laid his head on my lap and began lightly mumbling in his sleep. It was a different sight, when he's relaxed and not ready to kill. I kept stroking his hair as he snuggled further into me. I pulled the silk covers over his sleeping form and tried moving him. This was difficult considering he was so much bigger than me and even in his sleep, he refused to release me. I slowly unwound his arms and laid his head on the pillow and pulled the covers over him.
