Fatespeaker's POV
Fatespeaker was walking in the hall with Starflight when another girl came up to them.
"Hey, Starflight!" She greeted him, grinning.
She had shoulder-length golden blonde hair and warm brown eyes. Freckles dotted her face, so dark they were almost black. She was wearing a yellow shirt with an inkblot on it, dilute yellow pants and black sneakers.
"Hi, Cricket," Starflight responded shyly. "This is Fatespeaker. Fate, this is Cricket. She's in the year below us."
Fatespeaker waved, but she got a pang of jealousy. She decided to check their emotions to see if they liked each other.
Cricket was feeling cheerful, but the happy feelings she sensed were just platonic. Same with Starflight.
"So you're Fatespeaker?" Cricket was saying excitedly. "I heard about you from Swordtail. Is it true you can feel other's emotions?"
Fatespeaker smiled hesitantly. "Yup, that's me," she answered.
Cricket lit up. "That's so cool! How does it work? Do you do it on purpose, or does it happen naturally? Can you just sense emotions, or do you actually feel them, like they're your own?"
"It's usually on purpose. I can sense what they're feeling, but it doesn't transfer to me or anything." Fatespeaker replied. "What about you? What's your magic?"
"I'm a Flicker. It's cool, but yours sounds even cooler." Cricket gazed off into the distance dreamily, then seemed to come back to reality, a faint blush covering her cheeks. Fatespeaker could feel affection and embarrassment coming off of her.
"Can I introduce you to my friends?" She asked, seeming to recover.
"Yeah, of course!" Fatespeaker agreed, grinning.
Starflight nodded, and Cricket led them over to a group of four kids: two girls and two boys. One of the boys was Swordtail, who Fatespeaker knew from class. She didn't know any of the others.
"Hey, Cricket!" The other boy said, smiling at her. Fatespeaker could feel Cricket's heart jump at the sight of him. The boy, too, felt giddy to see her.
Oh my gosh, Fatespeaker thought, those two like each other! Maybe I can help them get together.
"This is Starflight and Fatespeaker," Cricket introduced. "Guys, these are Luna, Swordtail, Io and Blue."
"Hi! You can feel other people's emotions, right?" Luna asked Fatespeaker.
"Yup, that's me," she responded. "What can you do?"
"I'm a Flare." Luna held her hand out in front of her. Suddenly Fatespeaker felt blazing heat on her face. There was fire coming from Luna's fingertips!
"Cool! I've never seen anyone Flare before," Fatespeaker said.
"What's your magic, Starflight?" Io asked him.
"Uh, I'm a Flicker," he answered nervously. Fatespeaker could tell that everyone's eyes on him was intimidating him a bit, even if Io was just trying to be inclusive. She noticed Blue looking at him too, with a slightly sad, far away look in his eyes.
"What about you, Io?" Fatespeaker asked, trying to get everyone's attention off of Starflight.
It worked. "I'm a Flyer," she replied.
"I'm an upside-down Flyer," Swordtail added.
Starflight shot him a curious look. "Really? What can you do?"
