~Louis' Point of View~
"Quite romantic, isn't it?" Matthew remarked, lolling his head to the side with a smirk on his lips.
He was referring to the serene bright blue water that surrounded us, the clear sky and shining sun that seemingly radiated its warmth directly into the center of your bones, heating your entire body pleasantly. Romantic? I felt like I was suffocating.
I bit hard on my bottom lip, watching with sad eyes as the distance between my island and I grew further and further. I was beginning to have second thoughts, and I may or may not have been debating just jumping off and swimming all the way back.
"You should watch where you're steering; can't have you crashing or anything. I haven't got my trunks with me," I mumbled instead, pointlessly hoping that the roaring of the speedboat would block my words out.
He belted out a laugh that was way too joyous considering the circumstances, shaking his head. I hated the way his curls bounced around when he did that, which is exactly why he did it. "Oh Louis, how you amuse me. I could easily toss us both overboard, and I could crash us into those jagged rocks up ahead with a simple flick of the wrist, but would either harm us?" He paused, though we both recognized he wasn't waiting for any sort of response. "Besides, we'd probably make it back to shore faster swimming. This 'speed' boat is a bit slow for my tastes."
"Hey Matthew?" I slouched against the dashboard, turning my head to look at him while shoving my hands in the jean shorts that I hadn't bothered changing out of earlier. "You know everything, so tell me, what am I thinking right this second?"
Another laugh and shake of those damned curls. "It wouldn't take someone with limitless knowledge to know what's going on in that twisted mind of yours." His wide smile, along with some of his overall bubbly-ness, faded then. "I'm well aware of what you think of me, Louis. I'm well aware of what everyone thinks of me..." Suddenly the chirpiness seemed to flood back in like nothing. "It's a shame, really, because I'm fantastic."
I remained silent, casting my eyes to the boat's blinding white floor.
Matthew honestly wasn't that bad of a guy, but the fact that he was part of The Council, along with the images of some of the cruel things he's done in the past burnt into my memory with no hope of fading away, made befriending him almost impossible.
"Almost leaves room for change..."
I scowled. "I didn't ask, did I?"
His lips quirked up and his boot clad foot pushed down firmly on the gas, propelling us even faster than before.
There were no words exchanged for a while, and I took that time to think - something I'd had to do an unnecessary amount of yet still wasn't used to.
What would I do when we got back?
What would I say?
What could I say?
'Oh hey, sorry for bailing on you all when you kinda sorta needed me most, but I'm back now! No hard feelings right?'

FanfictionLouis ran away. Big deal. They should be used to it by now. They should know that he's terrified of letting his guard down and opening up, which he definitely would've done with Harry had he not left when he did. So it's better this way, he thinks...
