(logan pov)

I strapped Lorie into her seat and started up the car.

Logan: So what do you want to do today?

Lorie: I dunno!

Logan: Hmmm... well there was this new ice cream place that opened up down the road from the bar...

Lorie: Bubblegum please!

Logan: (playfully) I think I can arrange that.

We pulled up to a small, pink and white ice cream shop. Out the front ladies were handing out balloons and free samples of ice cream.

Lorie: Can I get one daddy?

Logan: Yeah sure, go ahead.

She skipped over to get a balloon.

Odette: Logan? Is that you?

Logan: Oh... um Odette, hi. Long time no see, huh?

Odette: Well I didn't really feel like going to the theatre with you anytime soon.

Logan: Well, yeah. Look I'm sorry for the way things panned out between us.

Odette: I'd say I understand... but I don't. You broke things off a week before our wedding without giving any warning or an explanation!

Logan: Odette... we all have a past. Mine, I suppose, had to stay as my present.

Odette: That's not good enough Logan!

Lorie skipped over with her balloon and took my hand.

Lorie: Dad? Who is this?

Odette: Dad? Your... your her dad...

Logan: Odette, meet Lorie. She's my daughter.

Odette: She...(trying to understand)... honey how old are you?

Lorie: (whispering) four.

Odette: Logan! How could you do this!

She stormed off.

Lorie: What was her deal?

Logan: (thinking of what to say) She is someone who used to be very important to me.

Lorie: Why isn't she anymore?

Logan: Well, sweetie, sometimes adults have to make hard choices, ones that sometimes force you to have to cut someone out to let someone else in. Make sense?

Lorie: I guess so.
