"We're here!" your mother's squeal wakes you. You blink the tired out of your eyes, trying to remember where you are. Sitting up, you are faced with the bright blue sky, and the smell of the salty ocean breeze sneaking in through the open car windows. You perk up at the sound of waves crashing against the sand in the distance. It was time for a vacation. Your first college exams had you stressed, and sleep-deprived, you deserved a vacation. When your parents offered you the perfect get away, you jumped at the chance.
"I missed it here." You step out of the car, admiring the way the air feels as it flows through your hair. Puerto Rico was not somewhere you went often but coming back always reminded you of your childhood. With a smile you grabbed your backpack out of the back seat and followed your parents into your home away from home.
Finally settled into your childhood bedroom, you decide to step out into the bright afternoon, with a kiss to your parents and an excuse of wanting to be near the water. You walked around your old neighborhood, smiling as memories filled your head. Has it really been almost thirteen years since you've walked this path? Since you've stayed in your room? Your grandmother did a great job of keeping everything tidy. She and you were awfully close, and both heavily entertained the idea of you moving back into your childhood home after high school, but your dreams led you into a different direction in college. Now living in Tokyo, you couldn't contain your excitement at being so close to home, to where you thought you would always be.
Your heart pounds in your chest as the beach finally comes into view. You dig your phone out of your jean shorts and snap a picture, sending it to Yui. After high school, you wanted to move out. Work wasn't exactly hard to find so you started there. Finding a couple of places near campus to search. That's how you met Yui Michimiya. Working together, led to rooming together, which led to a remarkably close friendship. With you being new to that area, you and she spent the majority of time together or with her friends. That's how you met Suga, Daichi, and Asaahi. The four bonded over volleyball, and although you don't play, watching them talk with so much excitement in their eyes was a magnet to you. You could sit there listening for hours, and even though you offer nothing to the conversation they never fail to bring you in and somehow you end up just as excited as them.
Plopping your towel on the sand, you remove your shirt and begin spraying yourself in sunscreen. You may be tan, but that will not stop a bun from settling into your skin, especially your nose and cheeks. You don't want that on day one of your return home. Following the routine with your legs, you didn't stop until you were completely sure that you were well covered. Sticking headphones in your ears and taking a book out of your beach z you settled your heart for the sweet embrace of your romance novel. How your heart longed for a love like the pages of your book. The passion, and the way the characters' energies worked so well off each other just drew you into a universe all your own as you scanned the words.
"Y/N?" An apprehensive voice pulls you out of your world. Squinting your eyes against the sun, you follow a pair of muscular legs, to a smile that puts the sun to shame.
"Suga?" You screech, "NO WAAAYYYYY!" Clambering up to your feet, you stand on your tiptoes to wrap your arms around his neck for a hug. Beneath you, he stiffens, and apprehensively brushes his fingers against your waist. Releasing him you start bouncing in place, speaking rapidly with excitement, your hands waving furiously as you stumble over your words.
"Wooooaaahhh there!" He laughs, "breathe Y/N, I can't understand you when you get excited." With a smile, and a deep breath, you stop and sit back on your towel, offering him the spot beside you. He takes your offer and sits with a huff. You laugh and explain your being there. Leaning back to let the air blow through your hair, while you stare off into the ocean. Feeling at peace. When you finally look over at Suga, he seems to have zoned out as well. You wave your hand in front of him with a laugh. He blinks, coming back into himself. You feel your heart speed up as his familiar smile overtakes his face.
"Sorry....uh.....I don't think I've ever seen you in anything outside of jeans and a T-shirt." He explains with a blush. You immediately cross your arms over your midsection. Although your bathing suit is high waisted, you know you've got quite a bit of chunk to you and it shows, especially now as you sit. When you stand, you don't feel too uncomfortable with your body. Swim team gave you a decent hourglass shape, but you're still on the heavier side which makes you highly uncomfortable. Beside you, your phone buzzes.
"Oh!" you peek at the notification, "That's my mom, I should go." With that you stand, gather your things, leaving him the towel with the excuse of having a reason to meet again soon, and wave as you walk back home. Your thoughts drifting back to his smile on your walk. Suga being in Puerto Rico was a pleasant surprise, but you remember him saying something about trying to go somewhere warm for break, I guess you talking about home left an impression on him. An odd feeling rushes up your spine while you think of Suga, leaving a goofy smile on your face, and a chill on your bones. Your phone buzzes in your pocket.
"Hey, I just wanted to say that it was nice to see you today" You smiled at the screen.
"It was unexpected, but I'm glad we had the same vacation spot." Shoving the phone back into your pocket, as you walk inside your home. You settle into a rhythm, cooking with your mom, and doing everything you can to not be disappointed every time you look at your phone to see that Suga hasn't texted you back. Distracting yourself with conversation, a delicious meal, and a shower before laying down in your old bed, listening to the coqui's start to get louder. Your thoughts continue to be interrupted by the events of the day. Not giving yourself a second thought, you grabbed your phone off the bedside table and sent off a text.
"Me too Suga. Do you want to meet tomorrow and hang out?" I pressed send before the anxiety hit. Laying my head on the pillow I took a deep breath, letting my eyes flutter closed and mind wander into the day's events. Suga has always been a sweetheart, a gleam of mischief in his eyes with almost every smile. To most he seemed like the sweetest person, but you saw past that. You noticed every time his smile would turn slightly higher to the right, it happened every time he made some backhanded pun or a dirty joke nobody seemed to notice. After a few weeks of this, he made a particular joke that made you choke on your drink. You attempted to cover it with a cough, but he noticed you then, seeing you like you saw him. He started making more puns then, overly proud when he got a reaction out of you. It became a game as you joined him in the remarks. Your phone pulled you out of your thoughts, you lazily turned the screen toward you, before crashing into bed with a smile on your lips.
"I would be honored."
