"Y'all better get on we gone be late" I yelled up the stairs. We were supposed to be heading to a little dinner party that was being held for Cat to celebrate her new album and these kids were about to have me late. Hearing the stampede of feet coming down the steps I watched as my four kids came down the steps AJ being the last because he was helping Elijah.
I smiled and ruffled his hair as he got to the bottom making him frown, this boy was me reincarnated, he looked just like me and acted like me as well, I picked up Eli and grabbed the keys, and headed out the door making sure to lock up.
"Now when we get to this place remember what I told you guys alright"
"We act up it's our donkey," Zoey said playing on her iPad. I smirked and continued driving when I got to the building I parked around back and took all the kids out and made my way around and inside taking the elevator up to the floor the hall was on. Normally Cat had all the kids along with her but because she had so much planning to do with this party I chose to take them instead to give her some more space.
When we stepped in I took in the design of the area and smiled several blown-up pictures of her were hanging on the walls with the title of a song from her album on them and in the front of the room was a stand with the original cover of the album, this was an all-white party but when I saw her I had to pause, we'd been divorced for more than a year but every time I saw her my heart still skipped a beat and I still felt butterflies.
"Look ya momma's over there-" before I could finish my sentence they were already headed to her speed walking.
"Hey, Aug good to see you made it" I turned around and saw Cat's long-time best friend.
"Sam, what you doing out here? Does Cat know you're here?"
"No I came to surprise her, I missed a lot because of the stuff I was going through but I missed my best friend, so I thought I'd pop out and support"
"Well thank you, I know she'll appreciate it, we were just talking the other day and she said she wanted to see you"
"Well, it's a good thing I came, how have you been?"
"I'm doing better than I was last year that's for sure, still got some things knocking around but I'm good"
"That's good to hear...umm who's that guy over there I've been watching him hover over Cat since this party started" I followed her eyes to Tyrell and looked back at her.
"That would be Tyrell, Ermias' dad"
"Ermias?"
"Sam, I really think you should talk to Cat, she should be the one explaining things to you cause I kind of feel like it's not my place right now"
"If you say so, I'll see you later they're supposed to be serving food in a minute"
"Alright, it was good seeing you enjoy the rest of your night" I turned away and made my way through the crowd grabbing a glass of champagne from a passing tray and slid up next to Cat.
"Can I steal you away real quick pretty lady?" Her head swiveled to me as she held Elijah and nodded.
"Excuse me a moment please"
