"Do you realise what this means?" asked Goodman. "The Godfather's after Rebecca, they'll be coming straight to us. This is fantastic!"
Paul stopped trembling. "Mr Goodman, would you mind stepping outside?"
"Why?" asked John.
Paul glared at him. "Because I'm going to punch you and I don't want to damage all this equipment."
"Paul," whispered Becky, when she could finally bring herself to speak. "Just leave it, it's okay…"
"It is bloody well NOT okay!" yelled Paul. "Becky's not your soldier, she's my friend! And you want to put her in the line of fire just to make your career look good. I knew you were insensitive, Goodman, but I thought you wanted to help the country."
"I do. I want to catch the Godfather," said John.
Becky heard a door close and ran out to meet Charlotte and Ted. "Don't go in there," she warned. "Something's about to go down."
"What'd we miss?" asked Ted.
Becky motioned for them to go into the girls' room, where she told them everything. "Oh my God," said Charlotte when she was finished. "You can't die… after so long…"
"Well, I'll try my best not to," said Becky in a feeble attempt at a joke. But she hadn't stopped shaking. She didn't know if she could sleep at night now. The Godfather could be anyone and they could come for her at any time.
"We won't let that happen," said Ted, putting an arm around her. "We're going to work this case and we're going to put the Godfather behind bars."
"Hey," said Charlotte, hugging her tightly. "It's going to be okay."
When they went into the living room Paul and John emerged, looking determined. "I'm sorry, Agent Hidgens," said John. "I didn't mean to be so insensitive. Your life is in danger, I should have had more sense."
"It's okay," said Becky. "Let's just work this case and catch the Godfather."
"Like you said," began Paul, "we find the target, we find the Godfather. I need you to think carefully about who your enemies are. Joanne said it's an old grudge, things like that. Why don't you and Charlotte do that just now? Mr Goodman, I recommend contacting your undercover agent and seeing if she knows anything about what's going to happen to Becky now that she's rising through the ranks."
"Wait a minute," said Becky sharply. "The Godfather knows me personally. That means they probably know Hannah. We should pull her out.""Hannah!?" cried Paul, Charlotte and Ted in unison.
John glared at her. "Agent Perkins was supposed to remain anonymous."
Becky rolled her eyes. "For God's sake John, my life's in danger, forgive me if I'm not thinking straight. There's more at stake here than the security of one agent."
"You're kidding," said Charlotte, unable to stop herself from smiling. "Hannah is an undercover agent for MI5?"
"So it's the Costa Crew," said Ted. "And Mr Goodman."
John shook his head. "We're working together to save the life of an exceptional woman. Call me John."
"The Costa Crew and John," said Ted. Becky grinned.
"The Costa Crew and John."
They stood smiling at each other for a moment, but then the reality of the situation sunk in and Paul immediately took charge again. "All right, John speaks to Hannah while Becky and Charlotte make a list of Becky's enemies. Ted, you and I keep looking into the Godfather's hideout. We find the Godfather, we save Becky."
