she knew how to glow before he came, she
knew that her beauty was sufficient.
but he
took it away
and turned into something new, a glow, a
fire, an
explosion
then he poured it out, spilled water on
her flame and left the smoke to curl into the air and dry in the endless silence.
she didn't want to walk away, knew that she needed
him to stay
but she left him, left him behind because
it was better when she was alone without him
hating someone is better than hurting with them there, and
knowing you have lost is better than playing a game
you cannot win
walking away was the hardest thing she had ever done.
turning your back on someone you used to love is so terrible, and
it rips into the very fibers of your being
like an axe into rings of wood
yet as she took her first steps as a new woman she felt fearless
this was not a wildfire that consumed every inch of her, no, it was
so different
(but sometimes different is good)
and now she stays with her head held high
no longer reminiscing about him
with tears in her eyes
this ordeal has made her into an effervescent pearl
with an
otherworldly
lustre
