Part 5: Chapter 18: Newborn

3rd Person POV

Mercer House

"So, the Bella girl lives to annoy another day," Alex mused.

He and Dana were facing Ryan through the TV while Ryan stood across from them on the couch.

Ryan laughed. "Yeah, she does. I wonder how she's gonna react to finding out that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee."

Alex chuckled. "Well, if I were you, I'd get it on film. You've sorted everything out with the wolves?"

Ryan nodded. "Jacob's the new Alpha... well, the Alpha of that pack at least. Bella's out hunting with Edward, and Azara is going over the treaty with Jacob and Jasper."

"How is Azara anyways?" Dana asked curiously.

"She's fine," Ryan replied with a grin. "Still a spitfire. Personally, I think she's gonna set Bella on fire one of these days."

"Well, I wouldn't be surprised by that," Alex chuckled. "How are you and Alice?"

"We're good," Ryan replied. "She's really excited about Renesmee. By the way, I am never going to deliver again." He shuddered.

Alex chuckled. "Yeah, I can't really blame you for that."

"So, Ryan," Dana started mischievously. "When are you and Alice gonna follow Bella's and Edward's lead?"

"Oh, come on!"

"Your Aunt's right, kid," Alex stated. "Personally, I was expecting you and Alice to get into it before they did."

"Anyway... how are things in New York?" Ryan asked desperately.

Alex shook his head in amusement but decided to let Ryan off the hook. "Repairs are underway, but we hit a small snag when one of the Goliaths fell on a few Evolved while lifting a building."

"How'd that happen?" Ryan asked.

"One of the Walkers probably got underfoot," Alex replied, waving a hand dismissively. "It won't take that long to repair. We should be back at full strength in a month, hopefully."

"Anymore Blackwatch bases I should know about?" Ryan asked.

"Not that we're aware of," Dana replied. "We sent Jace out there a few weeks before you took out that base to scout for any others. Honestly, though, I'm just surprised that they launched a Prototype-seeking missile when you were right next to them."

"Yeah, that wasn't really smart," Ryan agreed. "How's Jace?"

"He's good," Alex replied. "How'd you figured out that the base had an Orochi missile?"

"Asteria," Ryan replied.

"Jace's girl?"

"Yeah, her."

Glancing outside, Ryan checked the time. "I should probably be getting back. Alice is waiting for me."

"Then you'd better get going," Alex said. "Oh, and Ryan?"

"Yes?"

"When you and Alice have kids, don't ask me to deliver."

"Dad!" But it was too late as Alex had already cut off the connection.
