Gumball woke up in the middle of the night, like he usually does. He tossed and turned for about five minutes to get back to sleep. He finally took a look at his clock to find that it was 2:19 am. He decided to lay on his back, and listen to the sounds around him. He heard light snoring above him, from his sister, he heard the bubbles produced by Darwin's underwater breath. He felt the breeze from the window. It was cool and crisp. He turned to face the dresser one final time, and looked at the crystal. It was even more cyan than before, and it had a more eerie glow this time. Out of nowhere, a very high pitched noise rang through Gumball's ears. He entered a trance like state. He got out of bed, walked to the middle of the bedroom and paused. He then became oriented with his surroundings again.

"What? Why am I in the middle of the floor?" Gumball whispered to himself.

Surprisingly, the high pitched noise woke Darwin up. He was about to go back to sleep, when he noticed a very confused Gumball in the middle of the room. He decided to stay put, because Gumball usually goes to the window to look at the stars when he can't get to sleep. But, he just stayed in the center of the room. Gumball, still trying to figure out how he got over here, turned back around to go back to bed. He then noticed that the crystal was glowing so brightly, it was sort-of blinding! The crystal then rose up into the air, raced towards Gumball, and then stopped like it hit a wall. Gumball of course put his hands up in defense in front of his face, but then stopped when he saw the crystal had stopped. The crystal was now right up against his face. Though his heart was racing as fast as it could in his chest, he felt an urge to touch it. The glowing light was so mesmerizing, kind of calming actually. All of a sudden, it felt like he couldn't keep the urge in any longer. It was almost as invisible straps came from the back of the crystal, pulling him in. He knew he shouldn't have, but he did. Just as Gumball put one finger on it, Darwin screamed,

"GUMBALL! NO!"

The light blinded both of them in a cyan colored burst. In the burst of light, the crystal penetrated through Gumball's skin, then in the blink of an eye, came back out. He just felt a sharp pinch in his chest. When the light faded, the brothers looked at each other, shocked. Then they looked back up at the crystal, which was nowhere to be seen. The only remnant of the crystal was a speck of dust on the floor, which was barely noticeable. Gumball looked down at himself, and he was fine. No scratch, no scar, nothing.

"Gumball, do you mind explaining what that was?"

"It- it was the crystal."

Gumball then walked back to his bed, and laid down.

"What do you mean?"

"It- it made this weird, high pitched sound. Like that time you screamed at the top of your lungs."

"Oh yeah.. I remember that."

He had a slight pinch of sarcasm and anger in his voice as he was remembering when Gumball accused him of flaking out on him with Tina, the local T-Rex at their school.

"Look, that incident is in the past now. Let's just go to bed. Good night."

Darwin, surprised by Gumball's tone, said

"Woah. I didn't mean to make you upset. I just remembered for a sec. Sorry if I sounded rude."

No response.

"Can I get a response back?"

A couple seconds past before Gumball retorted.

"Look, I don't want to talk, I just want to get back to sleep."

As Gumball said this, he snapped around towards Darwin's bowl. Darwin noticed that Gumball's face had a snarl added to it. His teeth were showing just a bit, and his pupils were contracted, showing rising anger. He has seen this before on multiple occasions, meaning he really means it. In fear and because he wanted to just end the conversation, Darwin just closed his mouth and gave Gumball a "Okay. I understand, but are you okay?" look. But before Darwin could even close his eyes, Gumball was passed out on the bed, asleep.

It was now the next morning, Friday morning. The best day of the week for the Watterson kids because today borders the weekend! The three followed their usual routine, but Gumball had a bit of attitude thrown in. Anais was wondering and said,

"Hey, Darwin, what's up with Gumball?"

Darwin was startled by his sister's question, and when he registered what she asked, he answered with a bit of urgency in his voice.

"Oh yeah- um.. I wanted to tell you this earlier, but I wanted to tell you alone."

"Go on.."

"You know that crystal? Well... it may or may not have taken over Gumball?" Darwin explained timidly.

"What? Why didn't you wake me up?"

"Well, it happened really late last night, and I was still in my bowl when it happened."

"Wait, so what all happened."

"Well, I woke up because of this really high pitched noise. And I saw the crystal fly over Gumball. He touched it, and it blinded us both. When the light was gone, the crystal was gone."

Anais was baffled by this. She didn't know what to say or how it was possible.

"Then, when he got back in bed, he had an attitude. Like a random mood swing. I feel like that has something to do with the crystal."

"You know, all of this may be because of that ingre-"

Anais was cut off by their mother. Nicole called the three siblings,

"Come on kids! The bus is here!"

They all got their bags, and they all got on the bus. Darwin and Anais both told Carrie about it, the local ghost. Gumball wasn't paying attention whatsoever, since he was in another seat. This was more abnormal behavior for the cat. When they finished explaining, Carrie was terrified.

"Wait, did you say Emotogen?! And a crystal?"

"Yes? Why? Is Gumball going to be okay?!"

"Yeah, but.. not the town."

Darwin wondered, what does she mean by that? Sounds interrupted his thoughts as he heard teasing. I was coming from in front of him. And.. it sounded like.. Tobias. Oh no. He looked to the seats in front of him to see Tobias messing with Gumball. Darwin could see that Gumball was getting furious. Out of the corner of his eye. He saw a flickering yellow light on the window. He looked over to his left to see that a fire was starting. How is that possible?! Nothing was around to have started a fire. He looked over at Carrie and could make out two words she was silently saying.

"It's started."

Darwin looked back at Gumball, who was about to snap. He had the same snarl he had last night. Darwin thought to himself, this can't be good.
