Chapter 7

Divorced

As I walked into the Court House, reporters were rushing behind me, it didn't take long for me to see why. The paparazzi didn't care about me, it was the fact that Knox was right by my side. According to them I am a Whore, a Gold digger who was only there for money.

Mr. Gage is she your new girlfriend?

Are you aware that she is getting a divorce?

Is she pregnant?

Are you two a thing?

Were you having an affair with Mrs. Gardener?

How long has this been going on?

I didn't even know the man for a day straight and these people were all into my business. After leaving the house, Knox drove me to the Court House but seeing all the paparazzi at the door he decide he was going to be my 'Protector'. I barely knew the guy but being with him made me feel as if we've known each other for years.

"Candy! Candy!" I heard the voice of my Lawyer, Dennis, turning around I saw him in the Hallway. "You do realize that you are almost late?"

"Yes I am, I'm really sor-" I tried to say before I was interrupted.

"She was with me, Sorry she took so long," spoke Knox, whom I thought was gone when I entered.

"M-Mr Gage," stuttered Dennis, I knew Knox was rich but he was really famous. "What are you doing here?"

"Where is the hearing taking place?" asked Knox in a serious tone, totally ignoring Dennis' question.

"Here follow me..." replied Dennis walking briskly, leading us to a huge door.

Opening the door we saw Lucas, his Lawyer and surprisingly his baby mama, Sara. As well as the judge and other representatives.

"Mr. Gage?" said the Judge to Knox. "It's good to see you, how are you?"

"I'm fine Judge Thomas," he answered while sitting behind Dennis and I.

"Ok, So Today our case is..." replied the judge  looking down at the paper on infront of him, before saying, "A divorce... between Mr.  Lucas L. Gardener and Mrs. Candy K. Gardener, wow, Lawyers please explain"

"Yes, Your honour, my client wants a divorce from Ms. Taylor, considering they signed a Prenup, she will not be getting anything from my client," stated Lucas' Lawyer calling me by my maiden name.

"Mr. Jones do you have anything to say about your client?" the Judge asked Dennis.

"Yes, your honour, my client is requesting a good apartment and to still keep some of the things she bought in the house." Dennis stated exactly what I wanted. I felt a shamed that my life turned out like this. Having to beg to put a roof over my head due to the fact that my apartment is not in the best state for someone to live.

"Your honour my client disagrees, she did sign a prenup so the things in the house are his, they were bought by his money. As for the apartment, Mr. Gardener said that he's sure Ms. Taylor has found a job within these 6 months since they have been separated so she can find a way on her own," replied Lucas' Lawyer.

"Ms. Taylor do you have anything you would like to say?" asked the Judge, his voice filled with pity.

"Your honour, I just want to say something to Lucas," I said as the  tears started to form. "Please, I need your help, I'm not living in the best place right now an-"

"Candy we are getting a divorce right now for heavens sake. You signed a prenup. You are not getting a single penny from me!" he shouted at me.

"If I were your Mr. Gardener, I would not talk to her like that." Interjected Knox, who wasn't even suppose to be in here.

"Why are you here, uh? It's our divorce your not suppose to be in here!!" spoke Lucas oblivious as to who Knox was.

"My name is Knox Gage, I am aware that this was your marriage, but I ill not allow you to talk to Candy as if she is some piece of trash!" Knox said angrily.

"Ok gentlemen," said the Judge tired of the bickering before him. "Ms. Taylor, You signed over your rights to anything that you own or loved into you relationship. You therefore, will get a sum of 500 USD from your Husband. According to the Divorce Act, you are to sign the divorce papers, agreeing to all the terms. Mr. Gardener you get to keep everything." 

As he spoke I couldn't help but break down in tears. Dennis gave me the divorce papers when I was taking off my ring. Signing I gave him back the papers with my ring also, for it didn't make any sense I kept it.

"I now state that you are no longer man and wife. This meeting is dismissed," shouted the Judge, hitting the gavel on the sound block. He and his representatives left, leaving the

Knox came up to me, wrapping his arms around my body pulling me into a hug. "Come live with me," he said out of the blue.

"K-Knox I c-can't live with-h you Knox, I don't wanna be a burden to to you." I said simply noticing Lucas approaching me with his pregnant baby mother by his side.

"You would have never gotten my money," he told me with a smirk on his face before walking away.

"Candy, come stay with me for a while, please. I don't like the idea of you living poorly," Knox tried to convince me to stay with him. " I know we just met Baby, but I need to make sure that you are safe."

"Why do you care? How do I know that this isn't a trap? Where you take advantage of me then when you get your fill you leave me." I stated bluntly.

"This isn't a trap. I love your personality so far Candy. I care because last night I felt a connection. I want to take care of you Candy. Let me take care of you please." He begged.

Sighing, I gave up and just nodded. "Ok fine, I'll go but I'm just going  because I need a place to stay."
