I stared back at my reflection in the mirror, pretty happy with how my outfit turned out. I was stressing out a lot last night, because today was going to be my first day at Smallville High. So having one less thing to deal with the morning of, (even if it was as simple as an outfit) was a huge weight off of my shoulders.
I ended up settling on my white cargo pants, a plain white tank top, and a dark green cardigan. I'd rather play it safe, then find out the hard way that Smallville High's dress code wasn't as lenient as Central's.
I struck a pose in the mirror, trying to make my short brown hair and brown eyes look somewhat interesting in the daylight that was streaking in through my windows, but gave up quickly.
I wasn't getting any more confidence from the stupid motions.
I took one last look at myself, making sure my hair wasn't all messy, before grabbing my backpack and heading downstairs.
Dad and I had finished moving our stuff into the new house by late Saturday evening, which left me all of Sunday, to try and decorate my room before school today.
The room was honestly cuter than I had initially expected from a small town house; the walls were all painted white, and there were three large windows spread around the room. One of the windows was able to open completely, and as I had discovered last night, led onto a portion of the roof that was great for hanging out on.
I had put up some pictures of Jayden and I on the wall above my bed, along with some posters of my favourite singers and bands.
Overall, I was happy with how it turned out, even if it didn't feel as homey as my room back in Philly. I guess nowhere would ever feel like home as much as Philly does for me.
As I trudged downstairs and headed through the conjoint living room/kitchen, I noticed my dad was nowhere to be found. Figures.
He couldn't even stick around an extra hour for his daughter's first day at a new school, especially in this town of just 1,640 people, where a newcomer would stick out like a sore thumb.
Whatever, there was no use hoping he would change, because every time I did, I was just let down.
I walked over to the fridge, while placing my backpack on the kitchen island, and opened it to find it completely empty, except for two cold pieces of pizza left over from moving day.
"Fuck!" I cursed in frustration, grabbing one of the pieces and tossing it on the island, while simultaneously slamming the fridge door shut.
My dad had promised that he would go grocery shopping last night, while I ordered some kitchen supplies we needed off of Amazon. But of course, he had forgotten.
I made a mental note to go get some groceries after school, while taking a large bite of the chilled pizza.
As I continued to finish off my slightly unconventional breakfast, my phone chimed twice, and the screen turned on. Too lazy to get out of my seat, I strained my whole body over the long island, and grabbed my phone to check what caused it to chime.
<< hey bestie i miss u sm already. u left me here all alone to deal with these dickwads that call themselves football players and i'll never forgive u for it >>
<< oh- and i hope u have the best first day at the new school- but if it sucks, just remember- only 193 days left till penn ;) >>
I smiled down at my phone while still chewing on the pizza, happy that Jayden remembered it was my first day at Smallville High. I was so glad we had applied for early admissions at Penn, because now we knew for sure that we had it to look forward to, rather than constantly stressing out over the possibility of not being accepted.
