Chapter 1: The New Kits

Icykit's POV

The soft breaths of my littlermate welcome me as I wake up. My eyes have just opened seconds ago. I wake up in excitement to see my littermates for the first time. Sure, I already knew them, but this was different. I then look at both of them; a cream colored tom with two tails, and a silver she-kit with eerie light blue swirls covering her pelt. Why do they look so odd? Do I look odd too? I wondered. Suddenly the silver kit opens her eyes. They are lavender, and stick out vibrantly from her coat. We just sit, staring into each other's eyes.

Suddenly she jumps. No, not jumps- leaps. At me. I internally yell at my short legs to run out of the way, but they stay rooted in place. I can't react fast enough. As she lands on me, I suddenly remember her name. I think it was Echokit. Struggling underneath her, I hear the quiet mrrroww of my brother. Pushing my sister off of me, I slowly pad over to him. Ever so often, though I look over my shoulder at Echokit. I have to be ready for another surprise attack from her, however she sits there with her lavender eyes following my every step. I then examine my brother's two-tails and I suddenly get why my mother called him Twinkit.

Twinkit's POV

I call out to my sister, the one who looks like a normal cat besides her gem blue eyes I recall her name being Icykit I then open my eyes for the second time and I look at myself. Two tails? Am I supposed to be like that? Are all cats like that?

I shake myself, then say "Hi" to Icykit. She just stares at my face without saying anything.

"What is it?" I ask, hoping that it's nothing bad. "Your eyes...are so-" Icykit began to talk, but suddenly Echokit barges in.

She yells "AWESOME!"

"Huh? What are you talking about" I ask.

"One's silver and the other is purple, and they both have swirly stuff in them!" gushed Echokit as she bounces up and down.

"Oh my!" said our mother "Dawnpelt look, the kits have opened their eyes!"

Echokit cocked her hear in confusion and i looked at my mother's eyes. They were green.

"You're perfect" breathed my mother as she nuzzled me.

"Uhh thanks?" I stared, clearly confused about what was happening.

Suddenly another queen, who looked like she was ready to give birth, walked in. She took one look at my tails and my eyes, then looked at Echokit. The queen exclaimed, "What in the name of the four clans is wrong with your kits?!" She then clamped her mouth shut, while quickly apologized to me and Echokit over and over.

"Is there something wrong with us?" whimpered Echokit.

"Of course not sweetie." cooed mother. "Dawnpelt I think you should leave...now?"

"Oh yes of course again I am so so sorry Honeycloud." said Dawnpelt and she then walked out of the den.

"I'm going to go out to eat for a while. I trust you Twinkit and Icykit to watch over Echokit, ok? I feel like she isn't so safe." said mother. We quickly nodded our heads as she left.

"Of course. I'll be the untrustworthy one, I'll be the foolish one, and I'LL be the USELESS ONE!" huffed Echokit. I never expected a kit, much less one of my to littermates, to be so insecure! Suddenly Echokits swirls began glowing. Echokit took one look at the glowing spirals, then leaped out of the nest and scampered out of the den.

"Twinkit did you see that?!" exclaimed Icykit. I was too shocked to speak so I only nodded, then at least I found my voice and said "We have to follow her."

"Oh yeah. We should do that." said Icykit. We then leaped out of the nest and followed Echokit outside the clan's nursery.

Echokit's POV

I had taken one look at my glowing spirals and I ran. This had happened before when all my siblings were asleep. I had waken up to see an eerie blue glow comming from outside. Being the curious one, I followed it, and followed it outside the camp. Right when I was about to give up it led me to a pool, a pool with a beautiful gemstone in the middle.

"Drink the water..." a voice suddenly whispered.

I greatly confused, so I foolishly followed the voice's order. I walked to the pool. It seemed that every step closer I came to it, the gem glowed brighter.
"Yes drink!"

I lapped up the water and suddenly a surge of pain flowed through my veins. It became so intense that I passed out. A moment later I woke to find the swirls on my pelt glowing. What the... I thought then I realized my swirls were moving! They all clustered to the middle of my back and a flash of white blinded my eyes. When I finally opened my eyes, my body felt lighter. When I looked into the pool I saw only two swirls under my eyes and nothing else, then on my back were feathery wings. What the! Go back to normal! Look like me again!

"Please..." I softly whispered, then I reverted back to myself. It was like nothing had happened. I decided to keep what happened a secret. And I'm going to keep that secret. I thought to myself.

"Echokit stop!" I pause to look back for a moment to see Twinkit and Icykit running towards me. They followed me here?! I looked back at myself my winds had already appeared. I decide to keep running, and I do.

Icykit's POV

"Echokit stop!" I shout. She pauses to look back, then she continues to run. Finally we catch her. Twinkit pounces on Echokit, but after getting off, gasps at her. I stare at him then at Echokit, and I realize. All but two swirls on her pelt are gone. When I see her back I nearly faint because there on her back is a pair of wings.
