1st POV
i sat on my couch in thought. if allen was alive when i found him, it must mean that the hollow hadnt had time to devour his soul.
if he's still wandering as a spirit, i need to find him.
i sat up quickly, and grabbed my keys and phone before leaving my apartment.
i was off to see kisuke urahara, as i was informed that he ran a shop not far from here.
as i walked to his shop, i took the time to wonder.
what even is a soul reaper? why am i one? how am i one?
i can only hope that urahara had the answers to at least some of my questions.
i stopped and turned, standing in front of urahara's shop. two kids were out front sweeping.
"oh, it's you," the one with red hair said. i didnt spare him a glance and turned to the little girl.
"is urahara here?" i asked.
"hey! don't just ignore me like that!"
i continued to ignore the child.
"the boss is inside," she said, setting her broom down to open the shop doors. she gestured for me to enter.
i nodded as thanks, and she shut the door behind me.
i looked around at the drab shop, urahara not in sight.
"what brings you here, y/n?"
i turned around quickly, and urahara was leaning against the wall, his hat shading his eyes.
"i have questions,"
his smirk fell and he pushed himself from the wall, walking down the shop and towards the hall way.
"follow me," he said, turning down the hall.
i quickly followed behind him, and he led me to a small room. a large dark skinned man was sitting behind a table, three tea cups in front of him.
"sit," urahara said.
i did so and took a seat and faced him and the tall, well built man.
"this is tessai," he introduced, and tessai swiftly bowed.
"nice to meet you, y/n," he said, returning to his normal sitting position.
i bowed back.
tessai poured tea into the cup in front of me, and i watched as steam rose from it.
"that was some stunt you pulled back there. you're supposed to exercise a hollow, not let it devour you."
i tensed at urahara's words, and i refused to make eye contact with him.
"so my family is really gone? nothing left?" i asked.
"i'm afraid so." urahara sighed.
i fiddled with the cup of tea in front of me, contemplating.
"what is a soul reaper?" i asked.
"soul reapers are here to maintain balance between the soul society and here. they exercise hollows and send spirits to the soul society," he explained, and tessai sat beside him providing strange drawings to go along with it just like rukia did.
"right, but why am i one now?" i asked.
"the hollow that attacked you before, it killed you. you died. if we hadn't arrived when we did and resuscitated you, you wouldn't be here." urahara said, and i felt my blood run cold.
