WHIPPED

They were resting in their comfortable silence after making love. Carina with her head resting on Maya's chest and the blonde, lost in thoughts, stroking the Italian's soft hair. It was Wednesday, but it was not self-care Wednesday, it was lovemygirlfriend Wednesday... well, every day was Wednesday for Maya now, every day was a good day to love Carina, to make love to her, to feel her, to kiss her, to be the best version of herself for the Italian. She loved being "Capitan Softie" for the brunette, but nights like this required "Captain Badass" to satisfy her lover.

The fact was... it wasn't just sex anymore. It wasn't just a release of dopamine, adrenaline and other neurotransmitters. It was a dance, and the choreography was always different, but never unknown. Soft movements first, and then strength and passion. Soft laughs and little talking. It wasn't just physical even though she knew she was addicted by Carina's body.

It wasn't just physical and Carina was more then welcome in the bed, on her chest, in her heart.

That Wednesday, Maya decided to expose herself.

"I feel so good" said the blonde

"Well, you've had your fair amount of dopamine just a little ago" said the doctor efficiently

"No, I mean, this... us, feels so right. I could spend the rest of my life lying in bed cuddling with you"

"The rest of your life?!"

"ehm... yeah. How do you... Ehm... have you ever thought about getting married?"

"Oh... I mean... You are my first long term relationship. You're also the first person I decided to share a house with. I'd say that I've thought about us growing old together, but never about the wedding"

"are you opposed to marriage or...?!"

"Oh, not at all. It's just... Weddings are supposed to be around family and friends. You're the only family I have left. That means that I have to walk myself down the aisle and that makes me sad"

"I get it" Maya answered a little disappointed

"Babe, I didn't mean to disappoint you, really. It's not marriage that makes me sad, it's the day itself... or the idea of the day. We've been living together for a year, dating for two. A wedding ring would make our companionship official, but it wouldn't change us and our equilibrium"

"Yeah, of course, I get that. I'm not disappointed, I just realized that the only one attending would be my mum"

"Babe, we don't need our fathers..."

"definitely not, but our brothers... they would be happy for us"

Today is Wednesday again and Maya and Carina are sleeping in the Capitan's office. Carina came in around 3 am after a difficult shift and Maya let her stay the night at the station. As carina cried herself to sleep in the blonde's arms, Maya understood that she desired nothing more than spend the rest of her life being Carina's safe place.

When Maya wakes up, she slowly untangles herself from her lover and sneaks out of her bunk. Before leaving her office, Maya stops and takes a velvet box out of her backpack by the door. She goes to the beanery and makes pancakes for everyone. One by one the members of the team start arriving and Dean helps Maya adding bacon and eggs to those pancakes. As Maya was setting a tray for Carina to eat in the bunk, the brunette walks in. She's greeted by all the members of the team. She's part of the family now. Sometimes she spends the afternoon cooking for the team waiting for them to be back from a call, and her food is always very welcome.

She walks up to Maya and kisses her softly on the lips.

"What are you doing up already?! I was going to bring you breakfast in bed" Maya said tenderly

"Thank you, love. But I really like having breakfast with all of you"

The captain, waking up, felt like today was the day she was going to propose. It just felt right, and it had been months since she bought that ring.

She sits next to her girlfriend and hopes that the alarm won't go off.

"So, are you guys planning to go on vacation this year?" asks Andy

"Yeah, I'd like to go to Yellowstone park and do a little road trip" Carina answers and Maya shrugs a little looking at her best friend

"OMG, you're so whipped, Cap" Vic says laughing

"Careful there, Hughes" Robert tries to defend his Cap

"Actually it's fine, just for today. You can make fun of me all day long if you want, but let me tell you this... I'm so whipped. I never thought I could feel like this; I never thought loving would be so good" Maya takes Carina's hand under the table and turns to her

"I never thought I liked holding hands in the street, cuddling, watching someone sleeping and sharing my whole life with someone other than myself. Then you came into my like and changed my World completely. You made me question myself and you made me learn how to fight to be the real me. You're my family, Carina, and I want it to be official"

Maya pushes the chair away, and takes the velvet box from her pocket then goes down on one knee.

"Carina DeLuca, will you make the most stupid mistake of your life and merry me?"

Carina is surprised and doesn't answers. She stands up and bents down to kiss Maya with all the passion she has.

"Is this a yes?!" Maya whispers

"Yes, of course I'll be your wife" Carina answers crying.

Maya slides the engagement ring on the Brunette's finger and as they hug tightly, the alarm goes off.

"I'll be home in 4 hours, wait for me, babe" Maya instructs

"forever, babe"

A brief kiss and the run away

"I didn't know you were about to propose this morning" Andy comments

"I didn't know either. It just felt right" Maya replies with a smile on her face

"Congrats, Maya. You deserve happiness, and she does too. you fit perfectly together, you always have. I'm so happy for you. And that ring... so beautiful"

"Thanks Andy. I really wanted her to say yes, I never wanted something more than this. I hope I won't turn out as my father"

"You'll be an awesome wife and maybe also a mother"

"Maybe. For now, I need you and Vic to be my bridesmaids and help me pick a dress"

"Honored, Captain Softie" Says Vic jumping out of the engine and sharing a laugh with the two firefighters.
