birds chirping in the sky , chickens chickening their way to the barn quickly. "come back here yer little chickens!". a four year old girl with auburn pigtails , bouncing up and down as she chased the chickens for their eggs.
across the barn stood a middle aged woman with teal and greenish eyes , staring back at the young girl who is currently on the verge of throwing a tantrum just because the chickens wouldn't listen to her. I mean , i guess its better for the grand scheme of things. who wouldn't want to run away from a energetic , young child who is about to take your eggs away?
"now muli , that isn't how we taught you how to catch eggs from the chicken did we ?" muli's mother , wang peijia , aged 47 looked down at the four year old with her hands on her hips.
muli looked at the ground and puffed her cheeks in impatience, angry that the chickens didn't come to her in the end. "but it's so hard having to catch eggs! I want to play catch with papa!"
peijia sighed as muli wouldnt't stop whining about her father who is currently overseas , competing against the japan baseball team. "you're father isn't here at the moment muli. just this once , when your father isn't around to play catch with you, why don't you help mummy hmm?" peijia gave muli the sweet smile to make muli help her mom out of guiltiness for always leaving her mum for her father.
muli 'hmph'ed and went to quietly and cautiously catch the chicken eggs before it found out, but to her dismay , she wasn't discreet enough and instead of muli chasing after the chicken , it became the other way around.
peijia laughed and smiled warmly at the scene. ever since her father taught her how to play baseball , she had always been talking about going to one of her father's games or even playing for a school. but because of the inconvenience of the distance from the school to their homes , muli has never attended any school before.
and since the pricing for the baseball ticket was expensive , they decided to not spend the money for the tickets and used it on groceries instead. whenever muli's father have games , there will always be recording for it and she will watch it from there but she will always complain how it isn't giving her the feeling of watching an actual game.
"when's papa coming home?" muli asked , looking at her mother collect the eggs from the chicken's basket. peijia looked at her and smiled, "in a few minutes."
the young girl's face brightened and ran to the front door of the two level bungalow , abandoning her mother in the barn behind the house. she let out a sigh and gently laid all of the eggs she was craddling in her arms before walking to the front of the house. "muli! you can't just run out of the house like that. what if the cows saw you and start running after you! you know how the cows are like when we run." peijia scolded her.
muli just grumbled under her breath and gave a quiet "okay" to show that she understood and won't do it again but clearly she wasn't going to listen cause who wouldn't be excited to see a famous baseball player?
after a few minutes of peijia lecturing her daughter , a car drove by the driveway and all hail the famous pitcher from taiwan's national baseball team , wang xiaocao , alighting from the car. he gave the two of them a warm smile and hug. "welcome back papa!"
the both of them led him to the living room and brought him refreshments. "how was your flight?" peijia asked him while massaging his shoulders, kneading the sore muscles.
he heaved a sigh and smiled warmly at his wife. "that feels relaxing peijia thanks. My flight was fine. but the passenger next to me was really annoying, he was sniffing and crying and then after that he told me about his how he left his family for this business trip. like I don't need to know about your lifestory." he rolled his eyes and complained.
peijia snickered and patted his shoulders after she was done with the massage. muli walked to her father with a tray of 2 cups of water for her mother and father and sat them on the coffee table in front of them. "how was the game against japan?" muli asked eagerly and xiaocao laughed heartedly, missing her daughter's interest in the sport he loved and excelled in so well.
he patted her head and took out a piece of paper with his other hand from his duffel black bag. He passed the paper to muli , stood up from the couch and walked away , holding his wife's hand in his and dragging her away from the living room.
"what are you doing?" peijia asked him and he hugged her tightly. he knew his wife would object to this for their daughter's sake but obviously this will benefit muli greatly , as a homeschooled student and a child.
right after a few seconds of silence , a scream was echoed from the other side of the house. xiaocao smiled and gave an apology to peijia before walking back to living room to see an excited and happy muli.
"really?! you will really let me go?" muli jumped up and down in happiness and hugged her father from the neck really tightly. xiaocao grasped his daughter back and whispered something in her ear before telling his confused wife what the heck was going on.
"it's about time we let you go to the outside world and explore the city."
and the chapter ends with a screeching peijia , sweatdropped xiaocao because of his wife and a very happy muli hugging a registration sheet for middle school.
