The vice president was stood on the stage at the point i replied to the shooter. "jason? you there?" I was there.But I was thinking.Thinking incredibly hard. Thinking about whether this was all worth it.I was finally home, had my wife and boy back, and could go back to how it used to be.
"Jason," the voice reiterated.
"Take the shot" i mumbled...
"On this day. The people of
America are united as one. We have rescued a prisoner of war! I believe that the determination of our goverment was the success of his rescue! Ameri-" The shot hit him in the head, shattering his skull. Some chunks of bone and tissue from his now squashed-melon-like head flew into the crowd-The rest into oblivion. I stood there, people screaming around me. Running from the "danger," protecting themselves. Surrounded by all of this i frantically searched for Joe. Where the hell was he? 'Fuck', I thought. What had I done? Then,relief. I saw him. He was cradled in his mothers arms, crying. What had i done? The thought reappeared in my skull once again. I had just ordered a killing in front of my own son. I had had enough. As though my thoughts were answered, there was another voice in my head. It was my boss, the General
"well done Jason. Good work" he said.
"I quit, I've had enough of this shit".
"im afraid thats not possible jason, " he said, with a sense of false sorrow in his voice, as if he was mocking me.
"You cant make me! I did what we planned and now I've finally had enough! you cant make me stay!"
"oh i think we can" he exclaimed. " you wouldnt want your boy to come to any harm Jason. would you?"
I looked for joe. "JOE! Where are you" He was no longer in his mother's arms.
"You sick bastard! Hes a kid dont bring him into this!"
"oh,we can do whatever we want
jason. After all, you were the one who joined us"
