May was soon coming to an end. Sitting on my chair, I quietly reread my literature lessons before the class began. No one dared to come talk to me, yet I could feel all their eyes on me. Several girls in my class praised my face. I held back a sigh. I had nevertheless taken a strategic seat this year, in the middle of the classroom, against the window to have a constant backlight on my face devoid of emotions... but no matter where I was, the whisperings never stopped.
I was doing absolutely nothing to bring that attention to me. Believe me. I understood at a young age that my very existence was enough to provoke interest in others. All my life, people have wanted to use me in their schemes. My father being the first one. They put the image of a pillar on which rested all of their artificial ideals on me. I let myself be pushed around as a kid, oblivious to all the precepts imposed on me.
Leaving home on my nineteenth birthday had been the cleverest choice I ever made in my life. I had never wanted to be part of their projects, never wanted to be the center of their selfish desires. Leaving was a deliverance.
Every normal human being seemed to be looking for some kind of adrenaline, for various interests that could make their life more exciting. I have been living a simple life since I entered university. My life was nothing "hectic" at all, but it had been everything I wanted for years. I didn't want it to change. Peace was all I wished for... that wasn't always granted.
At noon, for example, two girls who had been wandering around me for several days assailed me at the end of literature class.
"Suho, would you like to eat with us?", said one of them in a high-pitched voice.
"Accept my meal, please!", pleaded the other one, hugging a bento to her chest.
My gaze lingered on them a short instant, indifferent. "I'm not interested.", I then walked around them and escaped. I picked up the pace to avoid being stopped like that again. The halls of Seoul University gave us enough space to move around, yet everyone found a way to push just to eat. However, I surprisingly had no trouble making my way through the mass because some students shifted when they recognized me. They glanced furtive gazes at me as I kept on walking in the halls.
This captivating smell suddenly reached me.
And here he came... the biggest issue in my life right now.
I held a breath and clenched my fists. This haunting fragrance tickled my nostrils and wrapped itself around me as if it was restraining my movements and wanting to draw me towards it. I clenched my jaw and swallowed.
A few meters away from me, a group of students confidently walked towards the canteen. At their head was a slender boy whose uniform fell snugly over his broad shoulders. Dark, shoulder-length hair that hugged his dangling earrings. Piercing eyes that complemented fine and harmonious features. He walked with confidence, smirking at the attention he got.
Han Seojun.
Everywhere he went, people turned around to stare at him. He left a strong impression on people and was well-known in the university. They were a gang that surprisingly never got into trouble, they rather had a tendency to solve problems. I had heard that Seojun took care of all the bullies he ever came across. He was helping the school to become a safer place for everyone. It was his poor grades, his brand new bike, and his fiery character that earned him his reputation. His homeroom teacher had never reprimanded him for his many fights but he kept reminding him to work harder. Indeed, Seojun didn't really care about his grades in music course, given that he was known to be a genius songwriter. He was already working with some idols (although this wasn't official). Not that I was interested...
