As Lee Haeyoon was doodling in her notebook, she saw her bright and bubbly friend, Kwon Sojung, coming towards her in the corner of her eye.

"Good afternoon, Haeyoon." she chirped. "Hey Sojung, what do you need?" Haeyoon asked, not looking up from her notebook.

"Have you heard about the party that's this weekend?" Sojung asked, sitting next to her friend. "What party?"

Sojung groaned. "Girl, I swear you live under a rock. The whole school has been talking about this party. And guess who's hosting it?"

"Who?"

"Park Jimin!" Sojung squeaked loudly, attracting the attention from peers around her. Haeyoon gave her friend a puzzled look. "Who's that?"

Sojung's jaw dropped. "You seriously don't know who Park Jimin is?"

"No. Why do you think I asked?"

"Well, Park Jimin is the son of the richest car maker in all of South Korea. He's the son of a very rich CEO."

Haeyoon closed her notebook. "Rich or not, I don't care who he is. I'm not going to that party either."
Sojung pouted and crossed her arms. "You're no fun."

Haeyoon looked at her friend and sighed. "I'll think about it and give you an answer tonight." Sojung squealed. "Thanks girl!" She hugged her friend. "You're the best!"

"I know." Haeyoon smirked. Suddenly, the bell rang, signaling that it was time to move to the last period of the day. Haeyoon stuffed her journal in her backpack and swung it around her shoulder. "Come on, let's get to class before our teacher yells at us again."

Sojung nodded. "Yes! Let's go!"

As the girls walked in the hall, people were staring at them, well, more specifically Sojung.

Sojung was the prettiest and most popular girl in school, but she was strange. She rejected every cute boy that asked her out. And plus, people questioned why she became friends with the nerd of the school, Lee Haeyoon.

The girls sat in their seats and the teacher walked in and closed the door. "Alright," he said. "Turn to page 33 in your textbooks and start reading.

90 minutes later, the bell rung. Everyone got out of their seats and made their way out the school. Haeyoon was gonna wait for Sojung, but she was busy flirting with a group of boys.

Haeyoon rolled her eyes and started the route to her house. In order to get home, she has to take a bus and walk two miles. She didn't get into that fancy private school because of money, it was because of her grades.

Finally, after 45 minutes, Haeyoon made it home. Her home was on the poorer side of town. The apartment's white paint was peeling off, and a few tiles from the roof were missing. The wooden stairs creaked as Haeyoon walked to the second floor.

She got out her key and unlocked the rickety door. It wouldn't opened, so she had to press her knee onto it.

The first smell she noticed was the smell of cigarette smoke. Haeyoon looked at the small circle table and saw a bunch of cigarette butts laying around. She groaned.

"Momma, make sure you clean up your mess!" she yelled, sweeping the cigarette butts into a small grocery bag. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Haeyoonie." Haeyoon looked up and saw her mother, Lee Jisoo, stumbling out of her bedroom.

Jisoo tried to grab the small grocery bag, but Haeyoon pulled it away. "Aw, why won't you let me help out, Haeyoonie?"

"You need to get ready for work, Momma." Haeyoon said, pushing her mom into her bedroom. "Go ahead and change, I'll walk you there." Jisoo smiled. "Thank you, Haeyoonie." Haeyoon smiled and closed the door.

She threw her sweater on the floor and flopped onto the couch. This is what she has to deal with everyday, ever since her dad left eight years ago.

Haeyoon always wondered where he disappeared to, and she also wondered how her life would've been if he hadn't left her and her mom alone.

The bedroom door opened and there came Jisoo, in her work uniform. She worked at a small convenience store that was a few minutes away. "Ready to go, Haeyoonie?" she asked, drinking out of a beer bottle and tossing it into the sink. "Momma, how many times do I have to tell you? No drinking before work!"

Jisoo laughed. "Relaxed, Haeyoon-"

"Please stop calling me that. "

Haeyoon unlocked the door and her and her mother made their journey to the small convenience store. After three minutes, they made it to their destination. "See you later, Momma." said Haeyoon, hugging her mom. "Stay safe, Haeyoonie." said Jisoo. Finally, they released the hug and Jisoo walked inside the store.

As Haeyoon started the route home, she felt a vibration in her pocket. She took her phone out of her skirt pocket and saw that she had a text from
Sojung.

Sojung: Sooooooo you're coming to the party, right?😘

Haeyoon smiled.

Haeyoon: What time and where?

Sojung: Tomorrow at 7pm, Son Heights Neighborhood

Haeyoon sighed. Really? That's like a whole freaking hour from where I live. And it seemed like Sojung read her friend's mind.

Sojung: Need a ride, don't ya?

Haeyoon: Thought you would never ask. Pick me up at Jang Park

Sojung: Of course babe! See you tomorrow, and dress fancy😘

Haeyoon laughed and continued to look down at her phone until she bumped into someone. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry." she bowed and started to walk away.

"Hold it."

Haeyoon turned around in her tracks and saw a boy that looked about her age, but was a little taller, and his hair was a light brown.

He looked at Haeyoon, never breaking his gaze. After a few minutes, Haeyoon cleared her throat and crossed her arms. "Do you need something?" she asked.

"Well, for starters, I need you to fix that tone of yours." the boy said, smirking.

"But you're not an adult though."

"I'm 18."

"I don't care. Look, I need to get home before it gets dark." Haeyoon said as she walked away.

The boy stared at her as she walked away, and then he smiled.

"Oh darling, you have no idea what you just got yourself into."
