Everything was going by so slowly, it was Friday and I hoped they would let me go home today.
“Hey Leah, how are you today?” Claire came in and brought breakfast, I still only ate the fruit and some orange juice but I guess it got better.
“I’m good.” I said.
“Well today is weight day, I know we skipped it the other day because I wanted to see how you did over the last few days instead of over one day.”
“Okay.” We finished our meal and went over to the exam room with the scale.
“Okay so on Tuesday your weight was about 101. Today the lucky number is…105, congratulations.” I stepped off the scale, I was slightly disappointed I was gaining weight but I knew it was the healthy thing.
“Cool.”
“You don’t sound too excited?”
“Well, I guess I am, but I just really want to go home.”
“Well that is Dr. Burns’ decision.”
“Yeah, he said he was coming in to see me today.” I thought about how my mother hasn’t come in all week to see me, was she mad?
“Alright, well I’m going to go deliver the results to him and I’m sure he will be in shortly.” I went back to my room and sat on the bed with Drew’s sweatshirt hugging me. I wondered why my mother hasn’t come see me, or my dad, Mason came a few times but that was all. Drew tried to come every day unless he had a meeting.
“Hello Leah, how are you?”
“Good.”
“Well Claire showed me your results, 4 pounds, very nice. I think you are progressing at a satisfactory rate, so I am releasing you today, I already called your mother and father, they are sending your brother since your father is at work and your mother had some personal things to take care of.”
“Glad to know she cares.” I said sarcastically.
“Well just gather your things, and Claire is going to be popping in every now and then, I gave her your cell phone number to see where you are when she plans a visit.”
“Okay, thanks Dr. Burns.” He nodded.
“I want some visits every now and then from you to check on things, and I have also informed Ms. Noel to find you when you go back to school Monday.”
“Okay, thanks doc.” I smiled and he left. I waited for Mason, he texted me after 10 minutes and said he was here, I was so happy to see outside.
“Hey kiddo, glad to have you back.” I smiled and gave my brother a hug, and then we got in the car.
“Why couldn’t mom come?”
“I don’t know she just isn’t happy for some reason, she hasn’t acted right all week.”
“Oh…it's probably me.”
“I think so, but I don’t want to get you upset or anything, I just think she is a little overwhelmed.”
“I guess.” The rest of the car ride was silent when I got home I realized it was just me and Mason, I went up to my room and unpacked all of my clothes. I forgot I was still wearing Drew’s hoodie. I wonder if Mason noticed. Oh well, the first thing I did when I was finished unpacking was text Drew and tell him I was home, I figured he was probably wouldn’t get it until after school or at lunch. It felt amazing to lie on my own bed and be home. I snuggled up into Drew’s sweatshirt and took a nap. It felt nice to sleep in my own bed and be in familiar area. I woke up to my phone going off. I looked at it and saw it was a text from Drew: Hey, I’m glad you’re home, maybe you can come over sometime this weekend?
