The funniest thing I find about writing this story is that the characters really have taken on a life of their own, in my head. When I first began writing this, I completely planned on having Ashley be closest to Diesel, but as the story has progressed, she's become closer with Hunter and Kade, which I personally just find really hilarious.

But, Diesel is a very large part of the next two chapters, so maybe he's just taking his time with coming out!

This is also a little shorter than some of my other chapters, but I felt like it was a good place to end it.

“Home sweet home,” Ryder muttered, leading me through the front door of the Halley Mansion. “Your stuff is in my room until we get another one fixed up for you.” His tone was short, and he made his way up the stairs without giving me a second glance.

I followed him, biting my lip. “Does that mean we’re sharing a bathroom?” I asked softly.

He turned towards me, his eyes defeated. He hadn’t had the light I was so familiar to in them since I had woken up in the hospital - and I suspect for two weeks prior to that as well. “Is that a problem?” he asked shortly. He had been attached to my hip, but his joking nature had disappeared. Ryder had been cold, almost. He hadn’t tried to kiss me, either. I’d spent so much time thinking about it over the last few days that I had given myself a countless number of headaches. My heart hurt almost as much as my body - I didn’t like this cold Ryder. I wanted the manboy I lost myself  in that day in the cafeteria.

I wanted my Ryder back.

“No, of course not,” I said. Deciding to push my luck, I continued, “Just promise not to try to catch me naked in the bathroom.”

His glare was icy, and I knew it was wrong to make that joke. “Trust me, I won’t.”

Nodding, I scurried past him the best I could, looking away from his cold grey eyes. He was terrifying me, to be completely honest. As I opened the door to Ryder’s room - or, technically, our room, for the time being - I heard him let out a quiet growl before he stalked away. I was too afraid to say anything, because he terrified me.

Getting a glass of water from the bathroom, I took my dose of pain medication before laying down in Ryder’s - our bed. I closed my eyes and let sleep overtake me.

Someone was shaking me.

I opened my eyes and met the bright green eyes of Kade. He was perched on the bed next to me, his hand gently resting on my shoulder as he gently shook me awake.

He gave me a small smile, brushing a few strands of my fringe out of my face. “Rise and shine, sleepyhead,” he mumbled. I stretched out and yawned, my eyes scrunching closed and my nose crinkling up. I didn’t particularly like being woken up.

Laughing, Kade leaned down and kissed my forehead, causing a blush to spread over my cheeks. “It’s time for dinner, cutie.” The blush on my face only deepened as he helped me up and began leading me from the room. I held on to his large bicep, clinging for support as my still lethargic body stumbled along next to him.

When we got to the island in the kitchen - where I supposed all meals were eaten - he grabbed my hips and lifted me up onto the tall stool. He pulled away and I swayed slightly, reaching up and rubbing sleep from my eyes. With a slight chuckle he pulled a stool closer to mine and climbed on it, keeping a hand on my back to keep me up right. I lazily leaned my head on his shoulder, almost falling asleep once again until a glass filled with a fizzing liquid was placed under my nose.
