 ◆ Part 2: Chapter 30

Compromise

"What's the problem? Why does the League attack the castle?"

"They want to end the monarchy."

"Exactly, My King," Takahashi points to him, "and, now that our queen is pregnant, I fear the League will try harder than ever before."

You can't help but think of the League's last attack on the castle. Toga, impersonating Shoto. Hiro and Bakugou, being cornered. Your children, in danger.

You can't believe you almost let them die then. You can't believe that there was hesitation when Toga revealed herself.

Never again.

"I fear you may be right," you murmur. Shoto holds your hand in his.

"But," Takahashi explains, fire in his eyes, "what if there's no monarchy to end? No kingdoms to rule?"

You glance at your husband. "What exactly are you saying?"

"We join together, and create one ruling. Different . . . coalitions, per se. The Todoroki Kingdom can gather all of their allies, and unite the kingdoms."

"How would we do that?"

"An alliance, but larger scale," Takahashi says, "we can have a voting system. The villagers can choose whether or not they think the royals' heir is fit to rule."

"Do you think that would solve the problem?" Shoto questions.

"I'm not sure, but I know people will feel considered and cared for," the pirate advocate answers, "I also talked about it with Mina, and she said that she'd love it. You have the pirates' approval, Your Majesties."

"I actually think . . . " you smile, "that might work."

"Whatever we have to do to protect the future generations." Shoto comments.

"You have the pirates' support!"

"It's nice to see you again."

"Likewise, Hiro," you hug him, sighing, "but can you stop it with the blind jokes?"

"What else am I supposed to do? I can't even study anymore without Mirashi reading aloud to me," your brother complains, "they won't even let me wear pajamas around the castle anymore. The maids pick my outfits now."

"You're a king, Hiro," you scoff, "you can't be that bored."

The blind king pouts, shaking his head. Kyuen nudges at his hand, and he pats her.

Mirashi comes up behind him, and bows to you. "Your Majesty, let's go take a seat."

They leave, going to the council room. You stand there, waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive. You spin around at the touch of a hand on your shoulder, smiling when you see your husband.

"I'll wait with you," Shoto says, "then we can continue were we left off earlier."

"Sho," you whisper, "we have guests! This is important. We can stop the resistance."

He only stares at you and you shake your head.

"Anyways, how do I look?" You twirl around. "Is this dress okay? I couldn't ask Hiro, because . . . well, you know. Everyone is going to be here, so it's very important."

"You look amazing."

Shoto hugs you, his arms wrapped around your body completely. You sigh.

"I love you, but someone's arrived."

"Alright."

He pulls away, and you both greet the next visitor.

None other than the Bakugous. Queen Mitsuki, King Masaru, and the infamous Prince Katsuki.

Mitsuki greets you with a tight hug. "How's the babies? Your family's growing! Is there anything I can do? What about water? Do you need anything?"

You laugh. "I'm fine. I've been better than expected, actually."

"That's great news!" the foreign queen smiles. "I'm very excited to hear this plan of yours."

Shoto nods. "I think it will help all of the kingdoms."

You see Katsuki roll his eyes.  As they walk by, you grab the prince's sleeve.

"Katsuki," you nod, "thank you for helping Hiro back then."

His face softens for a moment. "Yeah, yeah."

Then he jerks his sleeve from your grasp and bumbles away. You look at Shoto. He blinks.

Then you both laugh.

"He's so awkward," you mutter to your husband. "Like an angry Pomeranian."

Shoto chuckles. "He's always been like that."

"Oh? How long have you known him?" You ask, smirking.

"He used to come to my father's banquets," your husband explains, "he would refuse to eat anything but spicy food."

You both laugh again, and you lean on his shoulder. "I think the Bakugos were the last ones. Let's see . . . We've got Hiro, the Yaoyorozus, Iida and his family . . . I think that's it. They're the kingdoms we have the closest bonds with."

"Yep," Shoto nods, "now we just have to get them all to agree."

You look behind you, at prince Katsuki, who's already griping at Iida. Tenya, of course, argues back. Hiro intercepts, only making the argument worse.

"Yeah, that part . . . might be a bit more difficult."
