Monday:

Jungkook was 10 years old, and happy that his least favorite class was almost over.

"Remember kids, there is a spelling test on Friday! It is very important you do all the homeworks this week, you will need to review all the information from the homework to help you prepare for the test!" Jungkook was half listening, but more focused on his best friend a few seats over. When they were dismissed, he sidled up along side him.

"Cha-li, you want to go play soccer at the park after school?"

"Sure, let's get more kids though so we can have a real game...." Jungkook turned to whisper to the boy on his other side...

............................

Jungkook slammed into the house at dusk, the smell of dinner curling out to greet him as he walked up..

"Mama!" He called, and walked into the kitchen to find his parents and Junghyun already well into dinner.

"Um, Jungkookah?" his Mom looked him up and down, he was covered in mud and grass stains. "Ahm, can you put those clothes right in the laundry Jungkookah?" She wasn't mad but was firm. "Get some clean clothes on and come have dinner with us, love," she added.

A minute later Jungkook was sitting down with the rest of his family. Their eating had slowed but there was plenty of food left. They could always rely on his Mom to make plenty of food. Jungkook scooped rice on his plate first and then spooned thick stew over it and ate hungrily. His Mom watched him, drinking wine, as his Dad and Junghyun talked over the dinner table.

Jungkook watched her eyes get happier the more he ate until at last he pushed the bowl away, stuffed. "So yummy, Mama,"

"And what were you doing today that made you so dirty, Jungkookah?" she asked fondly.

"We were playing soccer, Mama! Our team won, I scored the most goals!" He said enthusiastically.

"Of course you did," she said with pride.

A short time later, she went to check on him, and found him deeply asleep, spelling book and work paper open beside him.

Homework he probably should have done, she thought with a chuckle, and yet she couldn't help love her busy active boy. She moved the papers onto his desk, covered him up with a blanket, and kissed his head. She shut off the light and looked at him for a moment, light from the hallway pouring into the dark room. My baby, she thought, before shutting the door quietly.

Tuesday:

"Homework?" The teacher asked down her nose to Jungkook.

"Um, I..." he stammered.

"Did you do your homework, Jungkook?" Shame passed hot over Jungkook and he shook his head, eyes downcast to his desk.

"You are going to have a hard time on the test on Friday, Jungkook-shi, if you don't do your homework!"

Jungkook set off toward home on Tuesday determined to do his homework. But he saw a frog on his way home, an unusual frog, and he ended up following it to the river. He watched it jump in and swim off.

"Jungkook-Hyung want to go swimming?" Little boys who lived on the river were asking him, shedding their clothes down to their underwear and jumping in the spring river. Jungkook found himself copying them, piling clothes on the river bank and playing a game of diving and swimming. When the younger boys got called for dinner by their parents, he pulled on damp clothes and walked home as the light fell. He remembered for a second that he was supposed to have gone home and done homework, and felt a wave of guilt pass through him.
