what defines a friend? in the meaning where does it lie?

in the mind?

in the money?

in the face? in the eyes?

the short girl looks up at her mom with her head tilted, curious as a random topic had just popped in her head. "mom!"

"what?" the lady who had her glasses tilted on her nose walks closer to her daughter. even though the smaller girl was getting high up in age her height seemed to be failing her. "are you okay?"

"yes." the twelve year old nods her head. "i just have a question."

"what is it?" the brown skinned lady looks down at her daughter and roots her lips. she was always so pleased to answer her questions because in the end she felt as if she was telling her daughter more knowledge about the world around her.

"what defines a friend?" the twelve year old looks at her. "like the meaning?" her lips were plump and pink as she talked, her brown curly hair falling between her crescent like eyes.

"well——" what is a friend? the lady crosses her arm, an indication that her thoughts were now way beyond answering. "a friend is someone who we sometimes do not deserve, yet they are with us to help us through our life."

"well what if they mess up sometimes?" the little girl was curious.

"they'll mess up." the lady blinks at her daughter. "they might mess up a lot, but in the end they'll know what they did wrong and they'll apologize as a friend, and as a genuine person. and you should accept them, because you make mistakes aswell —— i'll never know the true definition but once you get that friend you'll know."

"did you have that friend?"

"i did." the lady nods at her.

"who was it?"

the mother bites her lip. "you know him, he was a great friend to me, and always will be."
