Discovering one's self is very crucial in life, knowing what you really want you want and how to get there no matter the obstacles. Some people discover themselves early and some late. I would say the earlier the better, because those who acted upon their dreams and ambitions gradually at a young age, and by the time they became older they were more successful.
I feel students fail to discover themselves before choosing a career paths ,that's why most of them end up doing another thing apart from what they studied in the university. When we are young we tend not to pay attention to these things and just go with the flow. Like my case for example, before entering senior school (high school),instead of sitting down and critically thinking of what I want to choose regard less of what anybody thinks, I was ignorant and just went with what society and my parents wanted ,thinking what's the worst that could happen, after all it's just to read some books and I'll pass and do well in any department, well it turns out I was wrong, though I don't totally regret following their decisions, I still have some regrets and it's totally annoying when people especially teachers compare to other students who came there on their own accord.
It's good to work hard but it's better to work smart, by studying a course in which exams and tests won't have to be the reason you read, because it will be so fascinating and interesting you would just want to know more and read about it, that is working smart ,rather than wasting your time trying and putting a lot of effort to force yourself to be interested just to pass, from my personal experience, it's overwhelming, it feels like a task, there's really no joy and happiness in reading about it, you'll just be impatient and would want for exams to come and go ,so that you can take a break.
They say experience is the best teacher and they aren't wrong, I've come to realize, it's not just about passing, it's about learning something and doing it wholeheartedly, and this can only be achieved when there is interest, I've learnt it's not easy forcing yourself to read and understand just to pass ,when you are not interested in a particular field, sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can never be as good as those who have genuine interest in the course.
Just like my previous self ,some people haven't discovered themselves yet and they think it isn't necessary, so they end up doing what people recommend for them.
The worst part is when during that period ,your passion and talent starts to surface and show, that's when you'll feel like quitting and following them ,that's when you start to regret you didn't pay attention to them. It's good to know where you are going and how to get there, have a goal and a dream and this can be done by discovering yourself. Ask yourself important questions and let your heart answer them, not considering what any other person thinks. When you don't know what you want ,other people will push you around to do what they want and it's not good to base your decision on people who won't have to face the results. People say they don't have a passion or a talent and it's as if they aren't ready to find it, when it's their duty to do because no one is born without one.

Just like me again, some people know their passions and talent but ignore it and don't care about it because nobody is in support of it. I'll talk more on this in the next chapter.
Thanks for reading, it won't hurt to hit that star
