Dinnertime was normal...Me and mother talking about Japan, and father like usual.. "Oh, Yemi!" mother shouted, my shoulders jolting a little from the sudden shout. "Y-yes, mother?" I asked, my heart pounding hard from the scare. "Do you like your room?" She asked kindly. "Y-yeah! It reminds me of a room you'd see in a princess book. I like it!" I said with a huge passion flowing through my veins. "I see. Since you're finished eating, go ahead and take your bags up and unpack." She said, finishing her food up slowly. "Okay. Goodnight I guess." I got up from my chair and spoke. She continued eating and nodded, not saying anything. Was she shooing me out of the kitchen?
I walked towards the stairs and looked back at her. "Mother, why are you shooing me out of the kitchen?" I asked suspiciously. Her posture straightened up and she shot a look at me. "You have school tomorrow, Yemi. That's why you should go to bed early." Her voice got louder and louder with every word. "Well, mother you could've just SAID SO." I shot back. She jumped out of her chair, and yelled back. "Yemi R. Akahatsu! Do NOT talk to your MOTHER like that!" I scoffed and picked up my bags and walked up the stairs, mocking her softly.
I looked at the half opened door and kicked it open, throwing the bags on the floor. I sighed and slid down onto the floor, wrapping my arms around my legs. I heard my mother downstairs sigh softly and begin sobbing. I know I shouldn't have yelled at her, But..Why was she shooing me out of the kitchen so fast even though I wanted to keep talking to her? It was odd. She never done it back in Japan. Shaking my head to try and get the negative thoughts out, I slowly shut the door quietly. Looking around the room, I placed my hand on the mattress of the bed, getting up.
I bent down to open up my clothing bag, the zipper making a satisfying noise. Tugging out the clothes with force, I thought about what had happened. But just as I did, I thought of something else. School. What was school going to be like? I've never seen what an Oregon school looks like in my life! What type of people would be there? I never even thought of what to wear, or how to introduce myself. I knew mother already had my school supplies stuffed into my old backpack, but where was I gonna get on the bus at? Who would I sit beside?
So many thoughts. So little time. I thought to myself silently. I turned around towards the dresser and opened up one of the drawers and folded the clothes neatly into the drawer's small space. I picked out a peach colored cardigan with pretty bright pink cherry blossom prints that covered the sleeves and pockets. I sifted through all my skirts, choosing a innocent soft pink one. Placing the cardigan and skirt onto my bed, I looked through the shirts I had with care. I decided on a red button up long sleeved shirt. This would be one of the cutest things to wear to school, especially on the first day.
I guess the only socks I could pair with this outfit would be my knitted red knee high socks, but I left them in my clothing bag since I had not cared much about my socks anyway. Flicking on the light switch, I watched in awe as the lamp on my nightstand turned on. I loved this house's odd technology! It was certainly different from the stuff back in Japan. I wonder what the food will be like..
I picked up my outfit and sat it on the vanity. Moseying my way over to the bay window's curtains, I shut them tightly. I turned around, hearing a wooden board creak. Eh, it was nothing. I thought cautiously. Making my way to my bed again, I knelt down beside my bag of stuff and pulled out my soft blanket that had foxes on it. (Which I got from a fox zoo.) Along with that, I pulled out my pajamas that had random Japanese letters on the pants and shirt. I jumped onto my bed and began to change into my pajamas, throwing my real clothes to the floor.
Sliding the covers on me, I began to fall asleep, the street lights outside slicing little streaks of light onto the walls....
