Chapter 7: Racing

Today was the big day. Y/N was nervous yet excited. It was time for him to show the world what he can do with his quirk. To show the world and his mother that his quirk is meant for a hero and not a villain. 

He woke up and got out of bed ready for the day. He got himself sorted and came out of his room. His mother slowly turned her head and looked at the boy. "I guess you're not going to watch the Sports Festival, right?" 

"We-we'll see," she retorted. 

"Okay," he said before he leaving the house. 

He left the house with a hungry stomach. He grabbed it and was annoyed. Granted, he knew that there was food at school he could eat. He continued his way to school with a single thing on his mind. 

"I got to win. Winning will show everyone how far I've come and that I can be a hero. I can't lose!" he thought. 

He eventually got to the Sports Festival while snacking on some food. Finishing it, he got to the waiting room and waited along with his classmates. The room was very quiet and the air was so tense that one could cut it with a knife. 

Y/N just leans back in a chair watching as things go down with his classmates. After everything went down with Shoto telling Deku that he'll beat him, Present Mic announces "every first year, come out here and let the world see ya!!" 

Y/N along with his class comes out of the waiting room and walks out to the middle of the stadium. Y/N looked around in amazement at how many people showed up at this event. He couldn't believe it. It was amazing and had him excited. And worried. 

"Hello, students!!" Midnight shouted. 

Y/N looked at the teacher and thought "I understand that she's the R-rated Hero but you would think she would wear something else for an event like this." 

Everyone walks up to Midnight and they all soon hear a speech from Bakugo. He tells everyone that he's gonna win and it angered everyone that was there. Y/N looked at the boy with ash blonde hair and thought "considering what I've seen from his quirk and his mastery of it, I wouldn't be surprised if he does. But he'll have to get through me first." 

"Everyone, go to that tunnel and wait for Mic to give you the go-ahead to begin the race we are going to have!" Midnight commanded. 

The students do as they're told and wait by the tunnel. Y/N decided to stay back to prevent accidentally killing anyone. It would put him at a disadvantage but it was worth it. Mic begins his count down. 

"Three... two... one... GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" 

Everyone bolts off with Shoto Todoroki ahead of them all. He forms an ice wall in front of everyone to by him some time to get ahead. It didn't by him much time due to Y/N managing to get past everyone and destroying the wall with a touch of his hand. 

With the wall destroyed, Shoto resorted to freezing the ground. Y/N simply touch the ground with a tap and destroyed the ice. "I'm not stopping!!" Y/N thought as he forward. 

Everyone keeps going as the robots from the entrance exam come out of nowhere. Y/N looked up at them and didn't stop moving forward. "They can't hurt me. Nothing can't hurt me. For once, my quirk is serving me well," Y/N thought as he continued his sprint forward. 

Shoto and he are neck and neck. The icy hot boy unleashes his ice and destroys the robots with it. Bits and pieces of the robots fall to the ground and Y/N destroys them the moment they touch his flesh. 

Shoto gets next to him but knew that freezing him would be pointless and wouldn't help. He would just have to deal with the boy despite the annoyance he caused. Eventually, the two boys would come across a canyon. 

Shoto simply hops on a robe and uses his right side to slide across it easily. Y/N looked at the canyon not sure what to do until he remembered that he still had a pair of gloves. He pulls them out and a plan is formed. 

He puts one glove on and uses his gloveless hand to destroy a single part of a robe and uses his hand with the glove on to grab it. After that, he puts the other glove on and gets ready. "I hope this works," he thought. 

He jumps off and swings himself across the canyon. He manages to get back to the top and continued the race. Eventually, he sees that Shoto had already made his way through half of the minefield. 

Looking at the minefield, he sees the footprints that Shoto had left behind. Quickly but slowly, Y/N made his way through the minefield while following Shoto's footprints. Meanwhile, Bakugo comes in and gets in front of Shoto, and begins to fight him. 

"What is he doing? He could blast forward and get first place. What is the boy trying to accomplish?" Y/N mentally questioned. 

As they fight, a giant pink cloud comes out of nowhere and Deku goes flying past them. Both Bakugo and Shoto chase after him while Y/N lags behind. Luckily enough, Y/N uses Shoto's ice path and manages to somewhat keep up with them all. 

Eventually, the race comes to an end with Deku in first place, Shoto in second place, Bakugo in third place, and Y/N in fourth place. "Top five. Not bad," he thought. "I hope people saw how I used my quirk." 

More kids come in and Y/N sees Momo come in. "Yaoyorozu," he thought before running over to her. 

He sees Mineta on her back and runs even faster to rip him off and punt him like a football. "Thanks for that," Momo told him. 

"It's not a problem," he retorted while scratching the back of his head. 

"So, what was your placement?" Momo questioned him. 

"Oh, I got fourth place," he answered. 

"Wow, that's much better than my placement," she responded. 

"Hey, at least you won't be going home like a lot of the other students," he told her. 

"True. Let's see what's up next," she said. 

They all look at Midnight for the announcement of the next event. It's a cavalry battle and after hearing about the person being in first place being worth ten million points, Y/N was more than happy that he didn't get first place. 

"We'll give you your headbands and give you ten minutes to form your teams!" Midnight told them all. 

It was now time for Y/N to get a team. He wanted strong teammates obviously but saw that Deku was struggling. He figured that he should help his friend and began walking towards him. That's when someone from behind Y/N says "hey, are you the destruction kid?" 

"Huh?" Y/N said while turning around to see a purple haired kid. 

"I asked, are you the destruction kid?" he repeated. 

"Yeah, but my name is-" 

Shinsou snickers. "I don't care what your name is."
