AFTER having a discussion with Jessie, Luke quickly grabbed his jacket, some money, and the note for Gabriella and left the penthouse.
He reached her house around seven-fifteen pm. He approaches the front and knocks, he was welcomed by Gabriella's mother, Mrs. Miller. Whispering to her, he asked, "Hi, I, uh... Just came to say I'm sorry.. I'm Ross Luke, I mean Luke Ross."
While the mother and the boy talk, Gabriella came down to see who had knocked on the door, when she saw who it was she mouthed the words 'No' to her mother.
She faces the boy and said, "Um... Gabriella is kind of busy with homework and such, so now's not really a good time."
"I made a mistake, Ms. Miller, and I would really like to let Gabriella know that. Could you tell her that I came by to see her?"
Feeling a bit sorry for him, she nodded at him and said, "I will, Goodnight Luke"
"Goodnight, thank you."
Luke walks away and Gabriella's mom shuts the door. Hands in his pocket, Luke steps on the lawn and pauses. He glances at the house and wears a thoughtful expression as he walks off. He sneaks into the backyard and makes a call on his cellphone.
While in her room, she was laying on her bed when she heard her phone ringing. She picks it up and answers it.
"Hello?"
"What you heard...the other day, none of that is true. I was sick of my friends riding me about singing with you so I said things..." He trailed off, he took a sigh and continued
"I knew it would shut them up. I didn't mean any of it."
She got up and put on her bedroom lights, "Do you take me for an idiot Luke? You sounded pretty damn convincing to me."
Luke noticed that Gabriella's room as the lights turn on.
"Listen, the guy you met on vacation is way more me than the guy who said those stupid things."
"Luke, this whole thing has the school going crazy!"
"You should see us when it's taco Tuesday" He let out a nervous laugh which annoyed Gabriella, letting out a huff she then proceeds to say "Luke this isn't funny, you really hurt me you know. It's like you said right? Everyone is treating you differently, so why bother?"
"Maybe that's because I don't only want to be the basketball guy. They can't handle it. That's not my problem, it's theirs."
"But your uncle?"
"Forget about him, he can't choose what I want to do, and no one else can do that, I make my own choices"
"I don't know Luke, I don't really like conflict.."
"Well, you need to say yes because I brought you something."
"What do you mean?"
"Turn around."
Turning, Gabriella finds Luke standing outside on her balcony She sets the phone aside and opens her door. Luke starts singing
"This could be the start of something new. It feels so right to be here with you, oh. And now looking in your eyes, I feel in my heart, the start of something"
It stops singing then smiles lightly at her "New"
Gabriella smiles tearfully. Troy holds up the sheet music.
"It's a pairs audition."
Nodding, Gabriella steps outside and takes the music. As she walks past him, he cracks a grin. Gabriella looks back and they lock eyes. "I'm still mad at you, you know"
He steps beside her, he sends her a cheeky grin.
XOXO
They spent days after days preparing themselves for the play, it was a bit stressful for both Luke and Gabriella to juggle their other activities but they made it work. Hailey and Damien were furious to see them working like this so they set up a plan.
In the hallways when they were both passing, China read the auditions list " Callback auditions rescheduled to Friday beginning at 3:30 PM"
Austin and Ally came up to the trio and read the sign, "Why would they change the date?" Questioned Gabriella.
"I smell a rat, named Darbus" Austin commended but was shut down by China who then mentions "Actually I think it's two rats, neither of them named Darbus"
Ally came up in front of China and asked"Do you know something about this, shorty?"
Rolling her eyes, China removed Ally's finger from her face "You're shorter than me"
"Not the point!"
