CHAPTER FIVE
Happy Birthday Hazel!
ONE THING HAD BEEN brewing inside of Hazel for the past week, and that was tension— tension when she looked at Remus; tension when he look at her; tension whenever he was around, and even worse when he was away. But it wasn't the familiar awkwardness, or anger filled tension she shared with her mother on occasion. No
This was so much different, this was filled with want and longing; filled with wishes and the need to take little glances his way. Hazel wasn't used to this kind of tension in the slightest; but in all honesty, she didn't hate it all that much.
Hazel needed to tell someone about the flutter in her chest; and the quickening of her breathing when Remus was around— she knew that the girls wouldn't go blabbering anything; but it felt almost wrong to share something so private with them. Especially when even Sirius didn't know about it yet.
She was terrified of what Sirius would say; would he hate her? Or would he tease her about it relentlessly? Hazel didn't know, and she had made the decision that for the meantime, he would remain in the dark about her feelings.
So Hazel continued going through her days, trying her hardest to push the tension down and ignore it. In hopes that maybe these feelings would go away— but all her attempts failed the moment Remus spoke; or even when he was just in the room.
This was unfamiliar territory for Hazel. She had never felt like this for a boy, not in the slightest. That didn't mean she hadn't been with any— but when she had, her hands never started sweating, and her heartbeat certainly didn't quicken.
They just weren't interesting enough.
So as expected, Hazel wasn't very skilled when it came to actually keeping someone.
The last relationship she had ended when the boy had declared his love for her in front of the entirety of their house— and Hazel had responded with a shrug, while muttering an unamused 'ok.' the love confession had agitated her a little at the abruptness of it all.
When thinking back on it, Hazel admits she may have been a bit hard on the bloke; but it wasn't entirely her fault. She didnt feel the same way, what else was she supposed to do? Pull him along on something that had an inevitable end?
This is why these new feelings confused Hazel— because she wasn't used to any of it at all.
"-are you even listening to me?" Lily's voice sounded from beside Hazel, who had been so lost in her own mind she had forgotten where she was in the first place.
Hazel glanced over at her, eyes still in a daze, "huh?" She muttered, running a hand through her dark hair as she looked up at the red-head.
Lily's green eyes looked down at her, a scolding look etched in the lines of her irises, "I said, you know second class has already started and you're still in bed?" She repeated, and this time her words actually registered.
