They kissed until their lips went numb and found safety in each others touch.

It had been a while since she felt a true connection with someone.

A while since she was touched with such tenderness.

Her mind went back to that man, the first man that ever loved her, that taught her what love was... until it ended up being a lie.

She stepped away and turned her back on him, overwhelmed by the memories.

He reminded her so much of him.

"I'm... I'm sorry... I..."she went on to say but the words died as she sat back down on the couch.

He frowned and sat next to her, waiting for her to speak.

" We don't have to do anything if you don't wish to. I'm perfectly content in sitting next to you in silence. The music is still playing. We have wine and snacks.
It doesn't have to be anything more than that." he said with a kind smile.

She turned to look at him, her eyes apologetic.

" I do want more... "she whispered.

He frowned.

" Then what's stopping you? "he asked softly.

She sighed and took another sip of wine.

" Memories. "she answered.

He looked at her, confused.

She bit her lips.

" I... like you Charles. I really do. And I've wanted to kiss you ever since that night but... "she trailed of as she took in his hopeful gaze.

" But? "he asked urging her to continue.

Her eyes went to his lips.

She looked away.

Her eyes focused on a small line on the wall and she fidgeted.

"May I confess something?" she asked, turning to look at him briefly.

His eyes widened at the vulnerability he saw in hers and he nodded.

She turned to look back at the wall.

"For the past few years of my life... I.." the words stuck in her throat and she dug her nails in her palms to urge herself to continue.

"I... didn't let myself feel so much... I never let myself get involved in something meaningful. I kept my priorities in check. Jamie. The bar. Sex.
No room for love. No room for real connection. I... think it... scares me for the most part." she sighed and bit down on her lip trying to contain all the frustration against herself that she felt.

He looked at her with furrowed eyebrows, turning worried at her expression.

His eyes went to her fidgeting hands and he longed to hold them, give her comfort.

But he didn't.

"I'm telling you this... Because..."she looked hard at that line on the wall before turning to look at him.

She gulped once she took in his worried and gentle expression.

His eyebrows raised, expectantly for her next words.

" Because... "she trailed off and gulped again.

This was more difficult than it needed to be.

She turned back around to look at the wall.

She was almost determined to look at it for the rest of the night, when she felt a soft touch on her hands.

The warmth spreading from her hands to her whole being, she turned to look at him with wide eyes.

Her eyes went from their intertwined hands to his eyes in a repeating cycle.

She finally settled on his eyes.

"Because.." she continued, taking courage from his gentle touch.

"This...feels real. Too real." she said looking into his eyes.

His pupils dilated.

"We've known each other longer than I've ever known anyone. We've fought and fought and laughed and danced and we've hated each other." her hands squeezed his unconsciously and he felt himself smile.

"And...after all this time... We've... found a sort of connection..."she said more softly now.

He smiled at her words.

" If... If I let myself feel... If I let myself be vulnerable and go with the flow... Do.. do you promise to do the same? Cause I don't want to be in this alone. And I know this is just a first date... But we've known each other for years... And it doesn't seem fair not to take that into consideration... "she said nibbling anxiously on her lip once she finished talking.

He let go of her hands, wearing a soft smile.

She almost felt the loss before he placed them on her cheeks.

" I promise I'll get lost with you. I promise I'll let myself feel even when I'm terrified to do so.I promise I'll be vulnerable and strong when I need to be and urge you to do the same. For the sake of our connection. I promise all that." he said staring deeply into her eyes.

They were inches apart and she searched his eyes for any sort of lie or hesitancy before deciding that he was worthy of her trust.

" Good. "she said before locking their lips together.

He gasped softly in her mouth before tangling his fingers through her hair.

She slowly pushed him back on the couch before coming up on top of him and straddling him.

She pulled back to take off her shirt and stopped for a moment to gaze at him.

He was slightly panting, his face wearing a soft blush and he was looking up at her, straight at her eyes.

For a moment, she felt like a godess.

His hands on her hips, his eyes couldn't tear away from hers.

Black swallowing the blue.

There was a moment... where the music had stopped, the room around them and all of its contents had disappeared and it was them that existed, and only their breaths could be heard.

It was a brief moment of recognition.

But it meant everything.

His eyes traveled on her exposed skin, taking in every imperfection. Every mole, every freckle, every tiny scar that held a story.

His hand traced along a sort of birthmark and she shivered.

His eyes snapped back at her and he noticed her closing her eyes as his fingers traced patterns on her muscles.

There was no need for words anymore.

She took his hands in hers and brought them to her mouth, kissing his bent knuckles.

Her hands then traveled from his palms to his arms, caressing every muscle that they found in their way.

They finally found the hem of his shirt pulling it up, their eyes were still locked together, never straying away.

He lifted his waist and then his arms to help her take it off.

It was a slow process as they savored every moment of it, letting themselves fall completely in each other's arms.

There was no rush, no end goal.

They just felt the need to live in the moment.

And that was what made everything so beautiful.

There was no one in control, this wasn't a game of power, this wasn't a game at all.

This was beauty at its purest forms.
