After turning in the ridiculously long assignment to the class president, I slopped down onto my seat. I relaxed and got some shut-eye before my class teacher came in for taking the daily attendance. A few minutes later I realised the teacher was there by the greetings thrown towards her. 

"Lee Iseul..." the teacher called. 

"Here!" I said and quickly drifted back to lay my head on the table to rest. 

While having a peaceful moment with my table, my friend jolted me awake to alert me of the presence of our physics teacher. 

"Go away, Hyeri!" I pushed her hands away, annoyed. 

"Okay...Bye..." she said. 

I laughed at the childish reference. 

"Bitch, what do you think you are? five?" I asked slapping her shoulder while laughing. 

"Hey! Don't be so judgemental. Everyone can watch Frozen." 

I just rolled my eyes at the Frozen enthusiast and looked ahead of the class to see Mr Physics start the lesson. I sighed and braced myself for the long boring day ahead of me.

It was finally recess and I could have some peace now.

Normally, people would go out of the class to the canteen, get a snack, or go to the ground and play with their friends, but I just stay in class. Mainly because I don't really have a lot of friends and secondly because I'd rather sit here and read a book than get myself into the sea of people out there in the corridor. 

I took out a book that I just borrowed from the school library a few days back and was about to read it when my annoying friend Hyeri slammed the book back on the table making me jump a little.  

"Jeez...you scared me. What now?" I asked her. 

"Well, some of my friends from the neighbouring class and I are going to hang out today. We'll be going to the mall and some random places..." she trailed off. 

"So?" I questioned, urging her to go on. 

"All of 'em are coming with their boyfriends and you know I don't have one..." she dragged on again. 

I lost the last straw of patience and snapped, "Just spill it, will you?"

"Please come with me this one time, I promise I won't call you again..." Hyeri spoke fast and waited for my reaction. 

I just sighed in helplessness. 

"Hyeri, you know I would love to hang out with you, but you also know why I can't come too, so why ask and get rejected?" I asked her while hating to reject her every time she asks me to come along with her. 

"I'll speak to her this time! I'll convince your mother or maybe lie that this is about some project." Hyeri said, coming up with a convincing idea. 

My mother was always like this. She never let me go out with my friends.

If I said it was only me and Hyeri going out, my mother would state that it was not safe for two girls to go out alone. And if it was a group of people going out, she would state that if I was caught by some of my relatives while I was hanging out with my friends during the school week, it would be an embarrassment for her and father. Being the good child I am, I couldn't overlook any of the scenarios she came up with, so I complied and stayed at home.  

As a matter of fact, I never go out unless it was for some necessity, hence I never saw the outer world much and only stayed cooped up in my house. I hated living this way. I wanted to see the world too, to explore and look at beautiful things. I just hoped it would happen in the future.

"Fine, you can talk to her," I said in hopes of getting my mother convinced to let me out and hang out like how the other kids of my age would normally do.
