Surprisingly, my mother let me go.

Of course, we didn't tell the truth. Hyeri lied that it was a Chemistry project and my mom just let me go. Moreover, since it was the weekend, she said I could stay over at Hyeri's and come back before Sunday evening. I could not fathom what came over her to let me stay over, but I was not complaining.

I and Hyeri didn't waste time and marched into my room to pack my things. We planned to go to Hyeri's place first and get ready for the day out so that my mother won't suspect anything.

I didn't really have any idea about outfits appropriate for outings, so I let Hyeri choose them for me. She tossed a miniskirt towards me and I screamed, "Hyeri, I ain't wearing that shit,"

"Well, then why do you have that 'shit' in your closet?"

"I bought it ages ago. It was to my knees back then,"

To be honest, I hate showing skin. I am too shy and embarrassed to wear bold outfits like miniskirts. I prefer comfy pants or rather tight jeans to something more exposing. Hyeri just shook her head in disbelief and I threw the skirt to somewhere under the bed. Good riddance.

After going through my closet for about half an hour, Hyeri finally managed to come up with something decent to wear. I didn't question her choice despite the outfit being a bit fancy, but I thought it must be normal to wear it and just brushed it off. While Hyeri was struggling to whip out some decent clothing from my hundred-year-old wardrobe, I had already packed my essentials and comfy clothing to spend the night. Just in case we planned to stay up, I also packed some games we could play. People play games when they stay over at their friend's house... right? I didn't really know.

Double-checking if we got everything needed packed, we went down the stairs to wave my mom goodbye and then finally headed to Hyeri's house. My Dad was working now, so he was nowhere to be seen. Just like always.

When we both reached Hyeri's house, she didn't waste time and quickly pulled me towards her room upstairs.

'Wait, Hyeri. Where's your mom? I should at least greet her before I come in.' I said, my consciousness clawing at me for not sticking to the basic manners.

'She's not home, nor is my father, Iseul. It's only us.' She said, pulling me by my wrist. I nodded in understanding and followed her.

Finally, in her room, she threw the selected clothing towards me and signalled me where the bathroom was, while she skimmed through her closet to get herself something to wear. When I was out, she was done with her dress too. I thought we were good to go if we got ourselves a good pair of sandals, but a force tugged me on my arm and forcefully sat me on a chair and now I was staring at my own reflection in the mirror.

'What are you doing?' I questioned, looking at her who gave a devious smirk while looking back at me through the mirror.

'We gonna put makeup', she said and started pulling out brushes and palettes to start working on my face.

I haven't put makeup in my life except for the few special occasions where my mom would apply some for me. To some normal outing with schoolmates, doing makeup seemed a bit too much, but before I could even say anything, a sponge pressed all over my face and then I knew she had already started doing it. I just let it be her way this time as she seemed genuinely happy and excited when I glanced at her through the mirror.

Some time passed. I didn't really know how long and then we were finally done with the makeup and now ready to step out of her house. We booked a cab a few minutes before which was now parked at the entrance. We quickly hopped into it and drove off to the said destination that Hyeri mentioned.

I looked at myself and Hyeri's reflection in the rearview mirror. We seemed overly dressed, but I just thought I was wary since I hadn't been outside a lot.

I looked past the people and places around and felt a tingling sensation in my chest. For the first time in a while, I felt free.

Time had slipped by and I didn't notice that the car had stopped. Hyeri shook my arms a little which jolted me out of my trance.

'Are we there?' I asked her, my face brightening a little.

'Yes, now get out,'

We shared the cab wage and I stepped outside, expecting that my eyes would meet with a large entrance with people flooding in to get to the shops inside. I thought I would see a huge mall. But...

There were indeed people flooding inside and there was indeed an entrance but relatively smaller. People had drinks in their hands and my ears picked the loud music coming from inside. My face scrunched in confusion and realisation dawned on me.

A house?  Party? What the hell?
