I walked into the room at the complete wrong moment. Elija and Dory were hanging off my bed, upside down, with a large slice of pizza in each of their mouths. I frowned and watched as my friends proceeded to stuff the pie into their endless pits they call mouths. Christie held her phone in her hand, no doubt timing on who could eat it fastest. Everyone had already pulled out the beanbags that I stored in my closet, and I was glad that they were able to make themselves at home.
After shoving the whole thing in her mouth though, Dory prevailed by a hair. She flipped herself over and chugging her thirstbuster. On one rapid intake of no doubt Mountain Dew, she began to choke violently. Everyone laughed, and I walked in and sat down.
"Sophie! You need to eat something or you're gonna die!" Chistie told me, offering me a slice of cheese pizza. I shook my head.
"I ate when I got home." I lied smoothly. They couldn't know that I hadn't eaten all day. I caught a look from Dalton that I would no doubt be getting an explanation for later. If they knew I hadn't eaten... They would get on me, threaten me to eat. Whatever. I sighed, picking up my glass of water from the end table, and sipped it absentmindedly. Then everyone began talking about the project for Oxfords.
"I'm going to look so FAT on camera!" Bertha complained. We all gave her incredulous looks. She was by far the skinniest out of all of us, and it kind of made all of us mad that she always referred to herself as huge. That kind of made me self conscious. She skinnier than I was, and called herself fat. I sighed weakly, and looked at her straight on.
"Come on Bertha, you're gorgeous. Just dont even worry bout it kay?" I told her. She rolled her eyes.
"You fail to see how over weight I am." She said simply, before taking a bite of her pizza. I bristled, but no one noticed that I could tell.
"Guys, we have to go to Boston!" Dory said quickly, changing the subject. I met her eyes and silently mouthed the words 'thank you.' She smiled.
"Yeah we need fabric." Hazel chimed in. I nodded.
"I've got some great ideas for costumes! But we have to wait for Damien and Dustin to finish the script." I said, excitedly. A wide smile spread across my face, as I began to describe my vision.
"Elija! You and Christie are crime fighting twins! Elija, your costume could be purple with silver accents, and Christie yours can be just the opposite!" I got a chuckle from the group.
"What would my super power be, Soph?" Elija pipped up. I gave him a look with a raised eyebrow.
"You would pelvic thrust, repeatedly, confusing your opponent before tackling them to the ground and immobilizing them with a huge hug." I told him. A roar of laughter spread across our group and I laughed too. I loved these guys. I sipped my water again.
"Haz, I think you and Dalton should have a scene together!" Elija said, waggling his eyebrows. A blush spread across the pale girl's face. I could tell Dalton was blushing too. Just a little.
"Like what?" She asked.
"He swoops in and saves you from the villan! Then just as he sets you on the ground, he says, 'Stay here beautiful.' and you say 'but, mister, I dont know how to repay you for saving my life!' and he says, 'I cant help from saving a beautiful woman in distress!' and he kisses you and leaves you on the ground to go fight crime else where." Elija said, using his hands to demonstrate. He even stood up and did a dramatic demonstration, which made everyone laugh and Dalton and Hazel to blush uncontrollably.
Daltons phone buzzed then. "Guys, my ride's here." He said, standing. Everyone collectively groaned, and I smiled.
"Invite them in then! They can party too!" I told him. He looked a little bit wary for some reason, before texting whoever it was picking him up. Hazel pulled him back down and handed him another slice of pizza. He took it and glanced at me, with a peculiar expression on his face.
I chose to ignore it, and there was a knock at my little side door. I stood, and pushed my curtain aside. I had no door yet. Apparently, to the people who lived in the house before I did, doors weren't too high on their priority list. I pulled open this door though and opened it wide for whoever was to come inside. It was raining slightly, so the two people rushed in, with their hoods on. They walked into what was obliviously my room, and everyone greeted them. The three males took off their hoods and I instantly recognized Damien, Dustin, and...
Oh no.
Declan.
My heart froze in my chest. Half of me, the stupid half, wanted to jump into his arms. Wanted to tell him I still loved him. But the smarter half pulled me away. I could tell that he was uncomfortable here too, and I remembered when I first moved here when we were dating.
I had brought him on a tour of the house and then into this very room where we sat and talked for hours. "Hey, guys." I said quietly. They greeted me, and stood awkwardly behind my bed, looking around at my room. It was rather large, with gray walls and framed photography that I had taken myself. Above my bed was a whole mess of pictures that I had taken throughout my high school career. These had been of my friends, and I secretly had some pictures of Declan and I taped somewhere underneith the tangle of pictures. There was hardly any furniture in my room, apart from my bed, a desk, a dresser, and a closet full of clothes and bean bags that were currently being used.
"There's alot of pizza left you guys! If you want you can have some." Dalton offered, gesturing to the box and a half of pizza left. Dustin looked back at me questioningly, but I shrugged and followed them to the room. I reclaimed my beanbag, and picked up my water again, I tapped the cup with my long fingernails, to a familiar song.
"Last chance, Sophie." Dory said, waving a piece of meatlovers in my face. I swatted it away quickly.
"I'm a vegitarian." I told her looking down.
"Since when?" An almost shocked voice asked. I knew who It was, and I looked up at Declan.
"Since October 1st." I told him. His eyes met mine for a moment, and I cringed internally. That was the same disaproving look that I got from him when I told him about my past. I didn't meet his eyes.
"Why?" Dory asked incredulously., as if she couldn't fathom one of her friends not liking meat.
I shrugged. "I just gave up on it I guessed. I found out the amount of preservatives and oils..." I shivered.
"So?" Bertha snapped.
I looked at her. her dyed black hair was hanging perfectly on her shoulders. "So, it's my choice." I said, and that was that on that subject.
Everyone continued talking like nothing just happened, joking and laughing.
But I didn't talk after that.
At around Eight, Damien declared that he had to get the car home, or else he would get his ass kicked by his dad.
"I have to get home too." Christie said.
Everyone stood, and headed out the door, including me.
We all said our good byes, and our 'text me's!' before everyone pulled out, leaving me by myself. I trudged back inside, shutting the door behind me.
A wave of tiredness swept over me at that point, so I showered and climbed into bed. I checked my phone, and frowned. Five texts, one missed call. The missed call was from Hazel.
'Since when are you a vegitarian? - C'
'What's wrong, Soph? - D'
'I think I need to take you to a doctor. - E'
'Your room now officially smells like cheese. - D'
'Hey'
The last text caught me off guard. The series of seven numbers was one I remembered all too well. Although I had deleted the number from my phone, I knew who it was.
Declan.
I hesitated, with a quick 'hello' back, as well as replied to everyone else's texts as well. They texted back, not really concerned but just asking what's up, or that they were going to bed. I frowned, and ignored them. I stayed up for two hours after that, waiting by the phone. Then my eyes drifted closed, and I fell asleep.
((So I gave a little insight on how Soph acts around everyone else, and how she acts around Declan! I realize now that I write james patterson style chapters ahaa super short! Next chapter is gonna be longer, promise! and isn't it nice? I update every night! Vote, comment, share, whatever! xoxo ))
