Magical?

"What's it like? Is it magical?"

"We've never 'done it,' either of us," says the clinical trial patient.

Meredith raises her eyebrows, and Derek smiles at her.

"Have you two ever 'done it,'?" says the other clinical trial patient (oh, who happens to be in love with the aforementioned clinical trial patient).

"Wha- with each other!?" says Derek.

"Ah, he's 'done it,' and I've 'done it,'..." Meredith fumbles.

"What was it like, is it magical?" The patient asks Meredith and Derek (this patient who is also in love with the fellow clinical trial patient).

"Yes..." says Derek.

"It can be..." says Meredith.

"With the right person..." says Derek, as he smiles at Meredith.

Of all the firsts Derek's had with surgery, he's sort of proud of getting his patients laid for the first time.

"They're so happy," Meredith giggles.

"They are," Derek says wistfully.

"Hey, when you were talking earlier, about how sex can be magical... Were you talking about me, there? You were... weren't you... Or were you talking about Addison?" Meredith asks him.

Derek chuckles, and he leans in, and he says "I was talking about Addison," in a mischievous tone, purposefully designed to make Meredith jealous for him.

It backfires.

"Oh good," Meredith breathes a sigh of relief. "So was I."

"What!?" says Derek.

"I mean look Derek, we've had a good time and all, and the sex is... It's good, really. But with Addison it was amazing, and magical, and I just wish I could re-live it all over again... So I'm glad to know that you're not that hung up on me. It makes it easier, y'know?" says Meredith.

"Meredith!? I was joking!? I was thinking about you!?" says Derek.

"Oh, oops... I'm so sorry Derek..." says Meredith, biting her lip and looking away from him.

"Wait, was this while we were together!?" says Derek.

"No, Derek. It wasn't... We were broken up... You two were broken up... And we just... And she just... And I just..." Meredith sighs again.

"This is unbelievable," says Derek.

"As I said, I'm very sorry," says Meredith.

"I hope it was magical for both of you," Derek sighs, as he turns to stare up at the ceiling.

"It was," Meredith says wistfully, reminiscing. "Derek..." says Meredith awkwardly.

"It's okay, it's okay. We were broken up, these things happen. I was with Rose, and that happened too. I'm just glad that we're finally being honest with each other," says Derek.

"Yeah," says Meredith. "It's a relief, I thought I was going to give myself an aneurism," says Meredith.

"I think I have enough of those to repair already," says Derek.

"No kidding," says Meredith.

"So I guess we're probably not getting back together then, huh," says Derek.

"Probably not," Meredith giggles.

"And we're probably not going to be having more breakup sex," says Derek.

"Unlikely," says Meredith.

"Wait, does everybody know about this but me?" says Derek.

"No," says Meredith. "Just Addison becaus she was there. And Cristina, but I swore her to secrecy," says Derek.

"Thank goodness," says Derek.

"Why?" says Meredith.

"Mark would have a field day if he knew," says Derek.

"He would," Meredith giggles.

"So, are you going to call her?" asks Derek.

"Why?" says Meredith.

"Addison," says Derek.

"Can I?" says Meredith.

"Well, you're both single as far as I know. It's a free country and all," says Derek.

"Maybe I will," Meredith laughs.

"Do you mind if I keep dating Rose then?" says Derek.

"It's a free country and all," Meredith smiles.

"It is," Derek laughs.

When they check up on the patients again, and ask them "how did it go?" they said it was magical, and Meredith and Derek are both very happy for them.

"So, have you two ever done it... With each other!?" asks one of the patients.

"What makes you ask that?" says Meredith, suspiciously.

"He dared me to," says the other patient.

"Well..." Derek sighs.

"Oh my goodness you totally did!" says the patient.

"That's so funny," says the other patient.

"Was it magical?" says the patient.

"Yeah, was it?" says the other patient.

"I think it's time for your surgery," Derek cuts in.

"Spoilsport," says the patient.

"Alright, kiss each other goodbye, we've got to go," says Meredith.

"Well, if you haven't had magical sex yet, I hope that you do," says the other patient.

"Thank you," says Derek.

"You're very sweet," says Meredith.

Derek and Meredith wink at each other as they wheel the patients out to their respective surgeries. It's a wink of forgiveness, of kindness, and of understanding. It's a special kind of magic in and of itself.
