Echokit let out a yawn, stretching out her forelegs. Beside her, Lilykit and Graykit were wrestling playfully. They finally reached a playful age, but were still too small for Echokit and her sisters. Moonkit wasn't much bigger than them, but Riverkit was and Riverkit was the most playful. Echokit enjoyed playing, but it wasn't what she wanted to do at all times. Moonkit was the complete opposite, she was always staring into space and distracted by things like feathers.
Ever since the death of Featherstorm a moon ago, Moonkit had been acting a lot different. She jumped at every drifting leaf or awkward looking stone. Echokit had no idea what was going on with her, but she was afraid to ask. Riverkit brushed it off as Moonkit being weird, but Echokit couldn't help but think it was something else.
She looked at Moonkit, the tabby she-cat was twitching in her sleep as she normally did and Riverkit was snoring softly. Echokit turned to Mistypool who was also still asleep, she sighed quietly and looked at her white paws. It wouldn't be long before her sisters woke up and Jayclaw showed up to do more training with them.
Echokit loved training with her father and sisters, but she wasn't nearly as good as Riverkit. It was embarrassing to be constantly tripping over her own paws and failing to catch leaves and pebbles while Riverkit did it without effort. Echokit looked out into the camp, she could see Rainpaw walking with her sister, Hollypaw and both their mentors, Tawnyfrost and Robinflight.
Echokit longed to become an apprentice, where she could roam the forest freely and provide for her Clan. Riverkit spoke of being leader someday, but Echokit didn't want to be leader. She just wanted to be the best warrior she could be, no matter what.
Behind her, Riverkit let out a groan and sat up with a hefty yawn. Echokit looked at her sister as she struggled to wake up, her blue eyes foggy. Echokit turned away, allowing Riverkit to wake up properly. She could tell when Riverkit was fully awake because she felt her sister's paws on her shoulders.
"Let's play, Echokit!" She exclaimed, nearly shoving Echokit out of the nest. "Before Jayclaw comes to give us training we can get some playtime done and show Lilykit and Graykit how it's done."
"Alright." Echokit agreed and gently shoved Riverkit off, careful that she didn't wake Moonkit and Mistypool. Echokit and Riverkit climbed out of their nest and faced each other. "What are we going to play?"
Riverkit looked around, narrowing her blue eyes. "Well," She mewed, looking at the floor. "We don't want to wake up Moonkit or Mistypool, and we don't want to risk hurting Lilykit and Graykit." The blue-gray she-cat was deep in thought, trying to figure out a game for the two of them to play. "I got it!" She exclaimed, but before Echokit could ask what the game was she was being pinned to the ground.
Echokit squirmed under her sister's larger weight, this wasn't exactly what she had in mind. Everything has to be so rough with her. Echokit thought with contempt, but fought back against Riverkit. She pushed her paws into Riverkit's belly, causing the kit to let out a squawk and stumble backwards. Echokit jumped to her paws while Riverkit steadied herself, but Riverkit was instantly going after Echokit again. Echokit attempted to get out of Riverkit's way but slipped on a small pile of moss. Her white paws came out from under her and she kicked up the moss while she fell to the ground.
Riverkit used to chance to pin Echokit against the stone floor of the den. "You're so clumsy." She teased. Echokit's pelt burned with embarrassment and she used her hind legs to kick Riverkit in the stomach. Riverkit let out a gasp of air and fell backwards, she sat down heavily and let out a wheeze. "Not so hard!" Riverkit spat. "We're only playing, not fighting SunClan." She grumbled.
Annoyance sparked inside Echokit. "You always tell me I'm not trying hard enough so I tried harder!" She shouted, lashing her small tail. "Maybe you should be able to handle stronger kicks."
