Amy wakes on Saturday morning excited for the day ahead. She has been putting on a brave face, trying not to concentrate on the reason they are getting married quickly. She knows her mom is doing fine at the moment and the doctor said it will be weeks before you see a real decline in health but she knows every day isn't guaranteed. She'd rather not take the chance waiting.
Her dad had left yesterday to head to the venue to help with setup. Amy rightly guesses that it must be far enough away that coming back to the apartment would have been too much trouble. She sees her sister, sleeping next to her and lets her sleep longer, knowing how difficult it's been for her to get a good night's sleep with her growing belly. Her sister had come over the night before to sleep here so they could all get ready together. Amy goes into the kitchen and Alice is already awake with Sandra, both drinking coffee at the table.
"Bonjour," she says to her, making a cup for herself, walking to the table and kissing her mom on the head as she walks past.
"Are you excited? Nervous?" Alice asks.
"Excited," Amy says. "But also anxious to see him."
The three of them eat breakfast together and then the door buzzer goes. Amy lets them up and her and Alice are soon joined by Anne, Gemma, Glenne and Sarah. The next buzzer that comes is a team of hair and makeup people, and a photographer. This was surprisingly one of the more difficult tasks to achieve for Harry, with most booked a full year in advance.
Glenne makes mimosas and they chat while getting ready. Sarah, Amy's sister, eventually emerges from the bedroom to a room full of people that she's never met.
"Hi," she says awkwardly. "I'm Sarah, Amy's sister."
But she needn't be worried as Gemma strides forward depositing a non-alcoholic mimosa, made from sparkling water, into her hand.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Gemma, Harry's sister."
Everyone introduces themselves and Sarah is put at ease that no one is holding a grudge for her past mistakes. She knows it's because Amy surrounds herself with only the best people, people who are just like her. Sarah feels very grateful to have such a forgiving person as her sister.
Amy is the last person to be finished her hair and makeup. She asks Sarah and her mom to come help her get her dress on. The photographer slips in partway, taking photos of the women making sure the dress looks perfect. The dress is long-sleeved and lace with a short train but it's completely backless, dipping low to nearly her tailbone. It's probably much more suitable for a summer wedding than winter but when Amy saw it on, she loved it instantly. It's delicate and although the fabric looks like her grandmother's tablecloth it's incredibly sexy, hugging her silhouette snugly.
Gemma comes in the room holding something in her hand.
"H wanted to give this to you, with strict instructions that if you hate it, don't wear it," she says smiling.
She hands Amy a flower crown, with tiny sunflowers, little white daisies and a mixture of greens. Amy can feel herself tearing up and as she looks at it.
