Beam POV
After preparing the table for our meal, I decided to check on my phone. It was been quiet ever since so I made it a point to glance at my phone from time to time to check my social media accounts. I left a message for my mom that I will come home a little late. I purposefully crossed out the specific details why.
I was on my way back to the kitchen when I saw Forth already stuffing himself. "Have you been awake for a while?"
"Yup. You've been tinkering with your phone too long so I've already started eating before the food turns cold."
I sat on the opposite side of table, wondering why he is so casual about this. Earlier, he acted like he wanted me out of the museum. Now, he treats me like I'm his friend and doesn't want me to go.
"Hey, aren't you gonna eat?" he asked.
I didn't respond and just began eating. Things started to get real awkward. We both didn't know what to say. Is there even something to talk about? I had my head down on my plate but I noticed that he was stealing glances at me.
"Are you feeling better?" I broke the silence.
"Yes. A lot better. Thanks to you." He answered with a smile. I don't know how can he be so pure and straightforward.
I wanted to scold him about his careless actions earlier but I thought I was not in the position to do so. I just switched to a more casual topic. "Why are you inside the museum when your wallet is missing?"
"I was supposed to have a meeting with my classmates regarding our project. Then I lost my wallet and my battery died. I think I spent a lot of time finding my wallet and since they can't contact me, they went inside the museum first then left to the next location."
"Oh that's why you were so irritated earlier. Mocking people out of frustration." I mocked which made him chuckle.
"But you were so into the argument, aren't you? You won't even back down." I am seeing an Forth in the I.D. picture.
"Of course. You made me more irritated because you're such a show-off."
And so the conversation went on and on. We finished eating and I volunteered to do the dishes since it's just a few wares. Besides, it's my gratitude for the food I just ate.
Forth contacted his friends and told them the news. I rechecked my phone and I received a message from Mama.
"Ok." She replies like that. But the amount of letters she texts is the opposite case when she calls me. Her mouth is a built in machine gun.
I felt the damp feeling on my back. I was sweaty earlier but it dried somewhat because it was cold due to the air conditioning. I was about to put my hanky on my back when a shirt went flying towards me.
"Please change. You might be the one who'll get sick. Or do you want me to change you too?" He teased.
So he remembered huh?
"I'm hot, aren't I?" He bragged with a funny look on his face.
"Show off." I murmured.
I changed in the bathroom because I'm not comfortable in going shirtless. Even at home, you won't see me without a shirt on. As expected, his shirt was a size bigger than mine but I still wore it nevertheless because I have no other change of clothes.
"You can keep that." He mentioned while sitting on the sofa in the living room.
"As if I can return it after this." I said while fixing my things inside my drawstring bag.
I pondered what to say or do but there's nothing left. It's my time to leave.
"So, this is finally a goodbye." I stated with a slight smile.
"Yeah. I guess it is." He answered with a serious face.
I felt a pang in my heart. I don't want to leave yet. I really enjoyed having him as company because most of the time, I'm by myself. Once I'm home, I will just face a computer screen, socialize with my so-called friends in social media and the routine goes on. I don't want to leave just yet.
"Eamy! Don't leave me again." He exclaimed before I even turned the knob.
Wait, Eamy? That's my childhood nickname. How did he...
I instictively turned to his direction upon hearing my name. Before I knew it, his lips crashed into mine without any warning. Next thing I knew, I was seeing stars. And my fondest, oldest childhood memory flashed into my mind.
"I'm gonna miss you Orty..."
"Don't cry na, Eamy. It's not like we're not going to see each other again."
"But we will live in the capital, we will not be coming back here."
"Then I'll go find you there when we grow up."
"Really? You'll do that?"
"Uhuh!"
"I'd like that, Orty."
"Just wish for it Eamy and I will make it come true. I will be your shooting star..."
After what seemed to be a lifetime, our kiss ended. The once blurry image of Orty turned crystal clear. Only, he's not the sunkissed boy that I used to know. I was now looking at the older version of him.
"S-Sorry... My body moved on his own and I uhhh... suddenly remembered my childhood friend so I called you his name. I don't know why but it feels like deja vu, like I'll be doing something again like..."
I pursed his lips with my finger then gazed to his eyes. I smiled. "Finally, my first wish from my shooting star finally came true. Orty finally found me."
Forth's eyes bulged in shock but it was quickly replaced with his charming smile. Our eyes never once broke their connection.
"Eamy..."
"Orty..."
Our lips locked once more.
Remember what I said earlier about how things got so weird today? Let me change stuff a bit. Things got so weird but wonderful today. 🤪
