Beam POV
Then it hit me. Leather. Beside the tree. Near the pavement where I stumbled.
I looked at the sky and said mouthed thank you to my long lost friend then ran towards show-off. I grabbed his hand and dragged him. His face showed confusion but I motioned him to move forward. I answered his question while walking to the spot.
The heat and tiredness we felt won't dissipate that easily but our energy was literally running out in this heat! You can view the National Museum of Natural History from a distance but eyes can really be a bit deceiving. It was plenty far especially if you're walking under the afternoon sun.
And true enough, it was his wallet that was sitting behind the tree when we got there. A worn-out wallet that's why it was not noticeable. Luckily, all valuable stuff were still present inside.
T/N: Seriously, this is a miracle. I left my wallet on my seat for just a few minutes. When i came back it's gone. Haha!
We both let out a sigh of relief. And for the first time, I got to see his smile.
Handsome. Truly a Mr. Show-off.
“I guess I’m your blessing in disguise, huh?” I said in jest as we huddled for shade under the tree.
“You are.” He said with a hint of smile in his face.
Cute.
I got my phone out of my pockets to check any notification when I saw the time. It was already past 1PM. My stomach was beginning to complain with hunger. I wanted to invite him for lunch but he might think that I wanted him to treat me for a meal in exchange for helping him. I deliberately acted as if I received a message from someone as an excuse to leave. He noticed it right from the get-go.
"You're going to go already?" He blurted out.
"Yeah. I have to meet someone.” I made an excuse.
He pouted with what I said. His wistful mood was instantly converted to an elated one since he got a hold of his wallet. And now, he's even pouting!
"Why? Will you miss me?" I am blank on where I got the balls to say something like that to him.
“Don’t leave just yet.” His tone are once again serious. My heart skipped a beat when he said those words. His voice has this little melodramatic effect.
“I’m feeling a bit unwell.” He remarked.
"Maybe it's just the hunger and fatigue. You might want to find something to eat right now.”
I did notice his skin. His arms were now covered with pinkish spots. It's heat rash. I'm sure of it. He was also complaining of dizziness.
“You okay?” I asked him while convincing myself not to panic.
He nodded. I knew he's not because his body temperature was warmer per our skin contact. I don’t know for sure but he may be experiencing heat exhaustion. I don’t know what to do. Emergency situation don’t come often so it's natural for me to panic. Would it look like I am over-reacting if I bring him to the hospital? What if he suddenly faints here? It was so pathetic of me, unable to handle this kind of situation.
"Do you have water or something to drink?" He asked.
"I already finished mine earlier but I can buy one again. I'm seeing a vendor right now." And so I rushed with all my might. I thought that we should not stay out here because of the temperature. It was not get 2PM so there's a possibility that it will get hotter. I was officially panicking.
