David (flash back)
The woods blurred around me. The feeling of running just to run was amazing! The air was rich with the smell of wet pine and cedar. I slowed to a trot, taking in my surroundings. The hill sloped steadily upwards towards the base of a shear cliff that over looked the valley below. The top of that cliff was my destination, I could feel it. I picked up the pace, curving towards the right so as to climb the steep grassy slope. As I came near, a lighting scarred tree came into view. The aspen stood alone on the cliff, an island in a sea of pine and cedar. As I reached the top of the cliff I found myself awestruck by the view. Low mesas surrounded the bowl shaped valley. Two creeks flowed into the valley, from the East and West, with a lake in the center. It was absolutely breathtaking.
A light breeze drifted in from the east, bringing with it the scent of a strange wolf. I turned,
the instinct to defend my back taking over. I growled a warning, low in my throat. From the trees came a gray wolf, with slinder shoulders, and a distinctive gray body, with a white face. Staying low to the ground, showing submission, she came closer. I stopped growling and loosened my posture, trying to show that I'm a friend. Is she from a diffrent pack? Maybe a rogue. But as I looked in to her eyes I know right then, this was her, my mate.

Audrey (p.o.v)
Blackness. That's all there was in my world. I was both floating and tied down, both asleep and awake. I live, but I'm sure that I'm dead. I had thought that there was an afterlife. Heaven maybe, but I had not anticipated the feeling of nothingness. That was the word to describe it, nothingness......
After both a moment and an eternity, something changed. I no longer drifted, but was secured to what seemed to be a wall. I was held to the wall by a thin thread. I could no longer drift but simply float.
Then I began to hear things. The first sound I was aware of was a loud, and obnoxious, non-stop, beeping. I began to count the beeps, trying to keep track of the time. 10,800 beep's later, I heard the sound of high heel's clicking on linoleum.
"Sir, the office called again" said a high soprano voice. "Sir?"
"Thank you Jane" responded a deeper, male voice. I guess that's "Sir"
"Sir, forgive me but, are you sure you want to stay?
"Yes Jane. I'm sure. I don't feel I can leave. Please apologize to every one for me."
"Certainly Sir."
I heard Jane leave, the clicks retreating. The man stayed, and I again began to count the beeping, to keep track of time. But soon I lost count, and I began to slip slowly backwards, into oblivion.
An undetermined amount of time later, I again became aware of the people around me. The man, I determined, was right beside me. He never left, to my knowledge. The clicking of Jane's high heels always announced her occasional visits. But she never stayed long. Others came, but said nothing, and left quickly. As the time passed, time spent in oblivion began to shorten, and I was aware for longer periods, drifting less often. Soon I was aware of the world fifty percent of the time, but attempts to speak, or even open my eyes were futile.
I was awake, when I heard the sound of heavy footfalls as they entered
"I see you can't keep away" said the voice I knew as "sir," because that's what every one called him.
"Yes. Your good humor is addictive, I just can't stay gone long." chuckled a deeper male voice.
"Oh, Max, it is good to see you again." I wished I could see!
"You too. Is there any change?"
"No. Not since yesterday" "Sir" said tiredly.
"I'm on break and the boys and I are going play pool down stairs, if you'd like to join us."
"Sorry to spoil your fun, but I'd rather stay here."
"If that's what you want, I'll been going. They are waiting for me." And with that, the footsteps retreated, and I returned to the oblivion I had become so familiar with.
