Audrey (p.o.v)

Tree's zipped by in a blur as the limo careened up the highway. I looked out the window at the green wall, it had been almost a week now since I'd woken from the coma. My Grandfather had been called away on business, but had insisted I join him at his summer home in Idaho as soon as the hospital was willing to release me. Feeling lonely, I re-read the get well card from my friends back home. It had come with a bouquet of flowers from my fellow band members.

"Sooo... are you looking forward to this summer?" said the man Grandpa had sent to pick me up from the airport. I think his name was Peter.

"Sure. I guess." There was a long awkward pause. I shifted in my seat.

"So you do marching band?" Peter said, sounding nervous. I supposed he was trying to be frinendly and make conversation with me. I'm sure my Grandfather put him up to it. Since I was going to be spending the entire summer with these people, I guessed I had better try to be friendly too.

" Yes I do."

"I heard you were going to state."

"Yes."

"So, did you win?"

"So I'm told. But I wasn't there for it."

He stopped talking after that. Maybe he realised I didn't really want to talk. And really, I did, but not to him. If Kyle was here he'd know exactly what to say to make me laugh, but he wasn't here. Only a get well card with his name in green ink.

"We're here" Peter said, opening his door.

I steppd out of the car before he could open my door. The house was as amazing as I remembered. A large log cabin, completely surrounded by a two story deck and large glass windows facing South, towards Boise. I knew from experience that the back yard opened straight into the wood's that covered the mounten. I recalled standing on the second story deck with my Mom and staring at the mountains and woods in every direction for as far as the eye could see.

"Like what you see?" Peter said, coming around the car with my luggage.

"It's as green as ever." I replied, takeing my bag's from him. I hurried up the front steps to the glass door's, but Peter beat me there, seeing as how he did't have any bag's. He opend the door and led me inside. A middle aged woman stepped foreward to great us.

"Mary, this Audrey. Audrey this Mary, our house keeper" Peter introduced us as he closed the door.

"Please let me show you to your room" said Mary. She did not smile, and I got the feeling that she hadn't in a long time. "I'm afraid your Grandfather isn't here yet, but you'll see him at dinner."

She took me up the stairs and down the hall to a large pine door, opening it to allow me inside. It was big, but not too large, with blue curtains and a blue bedspread.

"I hope it will suit you." she said

"It's lovely. Thank you."

"Dinner will be at six in the dining room"

"Thank you." I said again, smiling. She left, and I dropped the smile. I plopped my suitcase on the queen sized bed and looked around. The window was large, with a beautiful view of the mountains, and the bed looked inviting but I refused to lie down. Instead I sat on it's edge and re-read my letter.

Dear Audrey

We hope you get well soon

Love from us all,

The CHS Marching Band

Miss Gross Kenna Claire Payton Kyle Shane Arabella Amber Lilly

I put the letter down, and glanced at the clook on the wall. It was only five twenty. What to do, what to do? Then I remembered my sketch book! I had always loved to paint and draw, and the tamarack tree right out side my window was the perfect subject.

All too soon the clock in the hall struck six, and I was forced to set aside my nearly completed sketch. The hall out side my room was empty except for the granfather clock. When I finally got down to the dining room dinner was well on it's way. My Grandfather sat at the head of the table, Peter on his right and Mary on his left. There were other's as well, but I didn't recognize them.

"There you are Audrey! We were getting worried." called grandfather as I entered.

"Sorry. I was just a little distracted." I replied as I took the chair at the foot of table, across from him.

"Well, next time I'll send Mary to fetch you" he said as he looked back down at some paperwork next to his dinner plate. He seemed very preoccupied with trying to read and eat at the same time.

The rest of the meal was eaten in silence. After dinner Mary refused to let me help with the clean up, so I went back to my room. There wasn't much to do but finish my sketch, and go to bed.

so I will not be posting for a couple of weeks.. sorry I'll be writing again soon!
