"Kaizer was in just a month or two ago! And Master Neej sends him for a job like this? I expected this. He's hurt badly." A dark-skinned girl sat by the unconscious boy on the bed, eyes glistening with tears. Her eyes glowed a dark blue every now and then when she focused her eyes on him. It made the boy's chest rise and fall.
"What if he don't wake up?" A bulky boy asked after a while, his brown eyes worried. He was standing and he had skin that wasn't too fair nor too dark.
"He will, Darra. Don't say that," another girl said. Her fair skin was pale.
The door to the shabby room swung open and four people walked in. Two boys and two girls.
"Did you get the leaves I needed?" The dark girl asked. "I've tried but magic won't keep him breathing long enough. He's crossing over. And quickly."
"Yes, Yuri," another dark-skinned girl said, kneeling and rummaging through the bags. She finally found what she was looking for. "Here."
A tall and very thin boy rubbed his hands together. "I hope he will be fine. We are just lucky to have a healer like Yuri here. If not, what would have..."
"Let's not think about that, Jayah," the girl who had been sitting by Yuri said. "Let's just try to assist Yuri in any way she needs."
Yuri closed her eyes and took in a very deep breath, then she took the leaves from the girl. "Arlyn, get the potions ready. The red one, then the blue. And I want the yellow powder to be put into water and covered until I need it."
The girl knelt, going through the bags again. Then she looked up and said with an exasperated sigh, "Help me."
The members jumped.
"Oh"
They surrounded her, going through the bags and causing a ruckus in the process. Arlyn put her hand up. "Let me give them to you instead. Here have this one and hold on to it, Darra. This is the red potion." The bulky boy bent and took it from her. His eyes were still sad. "This is the blue potion, Ashysh." The pale white girl took it and held it tightly. It was like her life depended on it.
"Here Jayah and Harly," Arlyn continued. "Have this. The yellow powder. It's a lot but it will reduce in size after you mix it in water." A girl with her hair in conrows and the tall, thin boy stepped forward with outstretched hands. The large bag that was dropped in their hands took an effort to keep steady.
Harly turned to a focused Yuri. "The whole bag?"
"The whole bag," Yuri said without turning around.
Harly and Jayah shared a look then staggered around to find a place to drop the bag.
Jayah exhaled with effort on putting the bag down. Harly turned to him.
He shrugged. "I guess we'll have to get like ten buckets of water to—"
"Just one cup is enough," Yuri's low voice came.
They both turned to her like she was mad, then they turned to each other and shrugged. They headed out to get some water.
"Come, Ayo," Arlyn said and a short, hard faced boy walked up to her. "Hold this candle. Multiply it and put it everywhere in the room. Yuri needs it."
He nodded and turned to a table, sliding his hand across the candle repeatedly. Multiple pieces came falling out. When he had gotten about twenty, Darra snapped his finger and the candles lit up. Ashysh took them floating across the room.
With the way they seemed tight-knit and their apparent care for the unconscious boy, it would be hard to guess that they were a group of criminals.
