1987 in Burnage, Manchester..
After living down South for a few years, a now 17 year old, Mila Green, had moved back up Burnage, Manchester from Essex with her Mum, Julie. Mila didn't know anyone in the area and felt quite lonely as she was an only child and her Mum suffered from a mental illness and would have extreme episodes sometimes, where she would act like she hated her daughter and didn't want her around so Mila liked to spend most of her time out of the house. She had long golden brown hair and greenish-blue eyes and loved anything rock and roll.
As they drove into Manchester, Mila stared out the window at the kids playing in the streets on their bikes and boys kicking a football around on a field. She noticed how there was a lot of groups of rough looking working class boys standing around smoking or with their arm around a girl. She hoped Manchester was still like it was as she was a kid and that her and her Mum wouldn't have any trouble here.
As her and her Mum were picking up boxes out of the car and carrying them into their new home in Burnage, a couple of young boys on their bikes were watching them. Mila could see they were little troublemakers.
'So you're the new in's then?' one of the little boys asked.
Mila nodded as she walked past with a box. The little boys faces looked scruffy, like they'd never had a wash in a while.
'Where you from then?' one of them asked.
'I don't think that's any of your business' Julie said as she walked past the little boys with a box.
'Oooh' the boys said as they glanced at each other. They watched as Mila walked up the path to the car to collect another box.
'Hey, you're quite fit you' one of the little boys said.
Mila frowned at them, 'A bit old for you'
'How old are ya then?'
'17' Mila said.
'Still fit'
Mila rolled her eyes, 'Why are you hanging around? Haven't you got anything better to do?'
'Go out with him' one of the boys said pointing at the other.
'I'm too old for you both and even if you were older, I wouldn't go anywhere near you' Mila said cheekily.
The boys frowned at her.
'Oi you two' a young man called as he approached.
The two young boys turned to look.
'Annoying girls again are we?' the older boy asked. He had dark messy hair and blue eyes with thick eyebrows.
'We're just talking to her Noel, she's a new in'
'Yeah yeah, scram' the boy glared at them so they quickly turned their bikes around and rode off.
Mila stared at the young man, 'Thanks'
The boy stared at her then nodded before turning and walking off across the road.
Mila frowned as she watched him walk away. Why didn't he talk to her?
..........
Mila started at The Barlow RC High school but was in her last year. Her first few days there were awful. No one spoke a word to her and she sat on her own in all classes and at break and lunch times then went home sometimes to her Mum having a bad day which only made things worse.
A week later, Mila was on her way to school when she could hear a couple of people argueing. She noticed the same young lad she saw when she moved back, he had a thick mop of dark brown hair wearing a black jacket and scruffy black and white Adidas trainers. This was Noel Gallagher, the boy who chased the annoying little boys off for her.
