Hours went by, and soon enough Birch was a healthy dragon again. A healthy dragon with three limbs. The poison had spread throughout his leg through his open wound. They were all lucky it didn't spread farther. Bluejay and salamander sat beside each other at Birch's bedside. Their nerves began to settle as the fire dragon started to stir. Their faces lit up in relief. Birch sat up a little bit and rubbed his golden eyes.
"Where am I?" he asked, his voice groggy.
"Were in the earth dragon sanctuary," salamander replied.
Birch nodded and began to pull the blanket off himself but not before salamander could stop him.
"Wait-"
"What?"
"Don't.. get too startled, bluejay did everything he could to help you. I think it looks pretty good,"
Birch's eyebrows wove together before he pulled the blanket the rest of the way off. His eyes grew large in fear. His jaw dropped open a little bit. He stared at the sight before him. His leg was gone and in place of it were bandages wrapped around his thigh. He quickly stood up, pain shocked up his leg and into his spine.
"Birch I wouldn't-" bluejay started.
"DONT-" birch snapped before opening his wings and hopping out the sanctuary doorway. He angrily flew off high above the trees until the wooden structures left his view. That's when he realized he was flying. He felt all of his anger immediately wash away as he soared high in the sky above the trees. The bright morning sun washing over his red scales making him look like a giant ruby drifting through the sky. A huge smile immediately spread across his face and he let out a laugh of joy.
He soared higher and higher into the sky until he was with the clouds. His scales were misted in water. Once he had gotten tired, he let himself drop down to the edge of the earth dragon village. There, he sat on the side of a cliff, grass swaying around him.
"Birch! There you are," salamander sighed in relief.
"You took my leg from me, what else do you want from me now?" birch snapped again.
"I saved you!" salamander retorted. "If summer and I hadn't brought you here you'd be dead." he sassed back.
Birchs face relaxed into a neutral expression with a bit of guilt laced in. "where is summer?" He asked.
"I... I don't actually know, she flew off last night. I think she feels pretty guilty,"
Birch hummed, he was upset about his leg but he knew she was only trying to help.
"I wouldn't get too worried, this isn't the first time," salamander commented.
"Oh yeah I know," Birch replied, shifting his gaze back to the clouds.
"Who was that, who fixed me?" Birch questioned, breaking the silence.
"Bluejay, he's an earth dragon. A medic. Really good at what he does,"
"He's teal," Birch noted.
"What?"
"Earth dragons are muted and usually green, not teal and bright,"
