"I. Am. Going. To. Die." I complain as I let my head fall against the cold metal of the table.
"Woah, woah hold up. What's wrong?"
"Professor Fuck-face."
"You're gonna have to be more specific 'cause you refer to almost all of our teachers as: Professor fuck-face."
"Kingsley. Mr. Kingsley."
"What'd he do this time?"
"Besides practically throwing heart eyes at me? Nothing."
"Oh lord. Again?"
"Yes again." Mr. Kingsley is a fresh out of college History teacher. He thinks he is the shit. Okay, sure most of the girls in my class drool over him, but he had to choose me to pursue.
"Why don't you tell the principal?"
"1. Cause I ain't a taddle tale. And 2. Cause I would be flunking class if he hadn't taking a liking to me."
"Oof. Hard choice."
"Right? He can admire from afar, just as long as he doesn't act." I expect Alec to say something to make fun of the teacher, but he falls silent and starts shoving his face with pizza.
From my resting position on the table I make out the figure of the one person I wish hadn't shown up today.
Luke Johnson.
"Hey." His voice is annoyingly husky and deep. Hot? Yes. But annoyingly so. I don't respond, just groan.
"Elle. Did you eat today?" He asks. I sit up slowly, I give Alec a look that says: 'Don't you dare interfere.'
"Yeah, I actually just finished my apple." I lie straight through my teeth.
"Really? Just an apple. So I guess you won't have any trouble eating this bagel I brought you?" He asks arrogantly.
Fuck.
I can't eat that. I mean I literally cannot eat that. There's what like 200 calories in that thing? I've been doing perfectly fine today on zero food, zero calories.
I lock eyes with Alec and he senses my trouble. He snatches the bagel and stuffs it in his mouth.
"That was for Elle!" Luke protests swatting him on the back of the head. Alec shrugs. Once he's done chewing I mouth:
"Thank you." He responds with:
"You owe me. Big time." The rest of the guys soon join us, and we get to discussing when we need to head out to do a work day on the ranch, the fastest times from the rodeo last weekend, the next big game, what movie we should watch tonight.
Don't get me wrong, I love them, I just kinda zoned out thinking about what lie I can come up with to skip dinner tonight.
