Denver's pov
I walked down the hall quickly, occasionally flexing my fingers on my Car-15's pistol grip. I glanced around and knocked on the door using my left hand to grip the door knob and my right hand to keep control of my rifle, Harry called "come in!" As I twisted the doorknob and backed through it. He asked "what can I do for you Denver?" I looked at him "I understand you're adding Gates and Bear to the contract" he nodded and replied "at the behest of Commander Gates" I replied deadly serious "keep Nighthaven away from us 6-4s" he looked intrigued at my comment before asking "why?" I answered "unless you want those 3 dead, you'd be best to keep them away from us" Harry seemed surprised at the topic of death causing me to ask "you don't know the history between us, do you?" He asked confused "there's history there?" I sighed and muttered "fuckin private sector" i saw him looking more confused as I explained "we had a joint contract with Nighthaven in Nepal, they used a 6-4 team under my command as bait. It ended in one of my guys dead and one of the Nighthaven officers shot and dead"
Harry asked "I'm assuming there's some serious tension between your company and theirs?" I replied simply "we've had more than a few exchanges, some of them ending in unofficial skirmishes" he nodded before asking "Is having Gates and Bear here going to cause issues?" I replied after a second "no, I don't believe so. Gates and Bear are coming to make sure this contract goes smoothly and that Nighthaven doesn't get any ideas of causing trouble with me" he nodded slowly before speaking "I'll make sure to try to separate the two organizations" I nodded and stood before pausing and warning "just be careful with Nighthaven they've done business with some groups on the list in the past" he froze at the information "we are talking about the terrorist organization list correct?" I nodded and leaned against the wall "the white mask in particular, they did business with them in the Red Sea. It's a reason why we are so at odds, Gates, Bear and I try to only do contracts that are on the right side of an equation, or atleast whatever side we feel is right. Nighthaven is your typical merc group, they take whoever gives them the most money."
Harry grumbled "they failed to mention their dealings with the Masks, when was this business transaction?" I thought about it and replied "maybe a year ago? A bit longer? I'd have to look at the time the report crossed my desk" he sighed and replied "that is most worrying, Nighthaven has been in contract with us for the last 2 years" I commented "not the first time they've had contracts with both sides, they have a bit of a habit with that" Harry looked at me and asked "would your company be willing to keep eyes on them? If I can get hard evidence of their business dealings with the masks I can terminate the contract and put them in prison" I smirked at the mental image before replying simply "I think Gates and I both agree we'd want nothing more than that" Harry smiled before I pushed off the wall and spoke once more "just be careful around them, they switch up fast. Their loyalties do not stay in one place for long, the moment the flow of money stops they end their loyalty. Are we adding this to the contract?" he nodded as I opened the door and slipped out again.
I walked out to the front of the building and called Gates "hey, good news." She asked as intrigue slipped into her tone "oh? This better be good" I replied as my voice dropped "Harry added something to our contract, an even bigger payday" I could hear the smile in her voice "so what's this extra task he added?" I replied simply "I'll tell you when you and Bear get here, this isn't a conversation for an unsecure line" she sighed but replied "we'll be there in an hour" I smiled, I have missed pissing off Gates with Bear. He's a big southern guy and we clicked instantly, Gates, Himself and I are the trio that never breaks up. I liked it that way. I heard Grace behind me suspiciously "what are you doing out here?"as I spoke to Gates "see you when you get here" she replied "See you then, stay safe" as I hung up and spun throwing my arms out to the side and smiling "Oh the beautiful Ms. Nam, what can I do for you?" She subconsciously blushed as she jabbed her finger into my chest after each word "What. Are. You. Doing. Out. Here?"
I mentally marked that she had yet to trust me which in this line of work is a good thing, I replied as I waved my phone in my hand "just making a call" she squinted at me as Erik called from the doorway "Grace, what are you doing?" She turned and replied "just questioning the friendly neighborhood contractor" I called up to Erik "Hear that? I'm fuckin Spider-Man!" He laughed and Grace grew a small smile despite her efforts. I asked "is that all Ms. Nam?" She grumbled before nodding as I walked past her before stopping a foot behind her and saying "Ms. nam" she asked "what?" I replied "I can sense your distrust of me, always be wary of new people. A wise man once said 'Be polite, Be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.' I do hope you have your plan to kill me" I heard Erik "stop putting Grace on edge, she doesn't know you or the 6-4 enough to feel comfortable" I just laughed as Grace asked "Erik, would you be willing to catch me up on the group?"
He nodded before replying "Having Denver there would probably be the best option, he IS a 6-4 after all" I saw Grace look at me with disdain causing me to chuckle before she sighed and replied "Fine, but I want him unarmed" I stepped closer to her, leaning so I was a few inches from her face and asked "this part of your plan to kill me?" She scoffed as I leaned back, escaping her personal space before I interlocked my fingers behind my head and spoke "lead the way Erik" he turned and we walked into the building with Grace trailing a few meters. I noticed she had started keeping her Cz-75 on her, she's starting to get it. We walked to Grace's and I's room and I put my guns in their locker before sitting down, Grace sat next to Erik and they started talking about The 6-4 and our mantra behind what contracts were accept. I zoned out staring at the ceiling since they were going over things I had the memories of sitting in a room getting it drilled into my mental. Eventually I zoned back in when I heard my name.
"Denver" I shook my head and went "huh? What?" I heard Erik "why don't you explain to Grace why you guys only take contracts with people you think are in the right?" I replied "oh that's easy, I like being a hero" Erik sighed and replied "do you take anything seriously?" I laughed and replied "no, not a single thing" Grace sighed and mumbled "this is useless" I exaggeratedly sighed "Buzzkill, alright you wanna know why we only ever stay on the moral high ground with our contracts?" She nodded as I explained "we're all veterans at this organization, we've seen the evils of the world and refuse to stoop to their levels for extra money. We work with governments around the world to help them hunt down the people that have to get shot, as General Mattis would say 'it's a real hoot' some people just have to die and if I'm getting paid to take the risk so some 18 year old private doesnt? Fine by me" she looked me over as I added "besides, Gates is an idealist. She just want to bring her ideas to pass, can't say I blame her."
Grace asked "What's these ideas she wants to happen?" I answered nonchalantly "A world without terror or evil or some stupid shit like that, I zone out when she talks" I froze when I heard Gates from the doorway "You do what when I talk?" I started sweating as Erik looked on with wide eyes "oh you know, listen intently and remember everything" she called my bluff "Oh really, what did I say in the last briefing" I stammered out "Uh, uh, uh uh to be good?" She replied smugly "you're bad at lying" I sighed softly "fuck" as Bear laughed and spoke "you really should pay more attention to briefings" I looked at him "don't get on her side you bean stalk" he laughed before speaking "it's nice to see you again buddy" I stood and gave him a fist bump as Gates asked "is what you told me on the phone okay to be said with them in the room?" As she motioned to Erik and Grace. I looked at the two and nodded "I trust them" Grace seemed surprised at the comment before Gates motioned to the door. Bear closed it and made sure it was secure before leaning against it listening for any noise on the other side.
Grace did a small circle with her hand as I started "we have a new objective with our contract, you know how about a year and a half ago Basco brought in those pictures and reports to my desk of White masks and Nighthaven doing business in the Red Sea?" Gates and Bear nodded as Bear said "we had that huge meeting about it" I nodded and spoke "I brought it up to Harry, we talked for a bit since I went to warn him to keep our two companies apart unless he wanted his base becoming a war zone. He added the objective to keep tabs on Nighthaven and try to get hard evidence of them working with the masks, lower members interacting with them, any records of financial exchanges, contracts the whole nine" Gates smiled before speaking "next time they're on a missions, well check out their rooms. See just how organized Kali is" I heard Grace start talking only be to shushed by Bear as he heard something through the door. I stood and slowly worked my way over to my gun locker and grabbed my Car-15 lifting it and double checking everything.
Bear put his hand up and then waved his fingers 3 times the signal to relax, the danger had passed. I sat down as Grace asked "so you're telling me the PMC we've had working at rainbow for the last 2 years has been working with the enemy this entire time?" I listened as Gates spoke "Ms. Nam, I regret to inform you Nighthaven has the nasty habit of chasing money. I have no doubts that Nighthaven and their operators here have been selling information on your teams. Have you ever had the masks seem to know things about how your team is attacking?" She nodded slowly as Erik spoke "I knew they were money hungry but damn" I heard Bear "well this certainly tickles me greatly" I looked at him and said "do you know what you're talking or do you just talk?" He laughed before replying "hell, all I know Is the way I talk pisses off Gates" I leaned on the shorter woman and said "you love us" I felt her gun against my side causing me to laugh and remove it from her hand in a second causing her to sigh "sometimes I forget you're our best operator" I smiled victoriously as Bear asked "so what do we do now that we're here?" I shrugged before Grace said "I'll bring you to Harry's office" I put my guns back on my body and we walked out heading to Harry's office, I noticed Aruni looking around a short way down the hallway. I mentally marked that Nighthaven was taking an interest into The 6-4s presence at Rainbow.
