Denver's pov
I leaned around the corner and fired before I watched Ice pop around the corner firing killing a mask as Wamai leaned around the corner and shot Ice. I threw a grenade and heard "Fucking shit" as it went off. A locker on the end of the row was being used as cover by one of the nighthaven men as I noticed Goliath take a round to the wrist, he lifted his rifle and fired using his forearm to support it as we fired. I radioed on our back comms "how many nades left?" I heard the replies of "I'm empty" from most until Reacher said "I've got one more" I radioed "throw it, we push with the nade!" He nodded and pulled the pin throwing it into the back of the room as we rushed forward making it one row closer I ran down to the far end and tripped over one of the masks we shot, he grabbed my leg cause me to roll over and yell "Fucking die!" As I fired 4 more rounds and my gun cleared empty. I quickly reloaded and got back into the fight as rounds snapped past me from behind.
I yelled on the open channel "who the fucks shooting us in the ass?!" I got Perseus in my ear "I'm covering from the left, work Reacher" I heard Reacher "Working!" As he stepped around the corner and got shot 8 times. I sighed in anger and rushed forward and kicked the locker one of the Nighthaven operators was using for cover sending it into him as I leaned around the corner and worked with Baker to kill the two on the other side of the locker row. One got away as I radioed "Perseus work up to us!" He replied "moving" as the Nighthaven member came around the corner and shot Baker, in turn I shot him and then grabbed Baker dragging him into cover as I checked the back row and found it clear. I heard Achilles "Boar is down! Boar is dow-" as his mic went dead and Perseus reached me "The second group broke through, Achilles and Boar are gone!" I yelled back "Wamai slipped out the back!" He nodded as I started looking over Baker only for a grenade to bounce off the locker behind me. Baker pushed me off him and threw himself on the grenade.
My eyes widened as I pushed away and saw Baker's body as it jumped up with the detonation only for Perseus to lean around the corner and fire at the second group coming in behind us. I heard Maverick "We're moving to the second floor, 5 enemies made it through" I coughed as Perseus radioed "3 more!" I saw another grenade come in as I scrambled to get away from it tripping over a Nighthaven member as it detonated and I got thrown face first into the ground. My vision doubled as my head got a splitting headache and I felt a warm liquid running down my forehead. I heard gunshots and then my vision started to solidify into one image again and I grabbed my pistol firing into the masks as they came around the corner shooting Perseus and the wounded Reacher. I heard gunshots behind me and saw Wamai leaning around the corner with his Aug. I responded by firing my magazine at him as I pushed off the ground and tackled him, he responded by grabbing my legs and spinning using my momentum to throw me, I pulled my knife and yelled "You killed my men! I will eat your fucking soul!"
I ran at him as he waited patiently watching my knife just for my to lift my flare launcher and fire it into his face. He clawed at his face trying to get the burning specks of metal from it as I stabbed his thigh and left my knife embedded in its place before I grabbed a metal chair and swung it against his back knocking him to the ground before I swung again and again and again. I saw one of the masks had a combat axe on their back, a small tomahawk, I looked at Wamai before walking over and grabbing the axe. I lifted it above my head and swung, he managed to deflect the hit sending it through the steel locker. I let go grabbing a cinder block as he pulled his pistol spinning to my left batting the pistol from his hand and breaking his wrist. He yelled in pain as I continued my swing and turned all the way around sending the cinder block into his knee shattering it. This time it was a scream as I heard Dokkaebi at the doorway order "Secure the room, double check everyone is dead." I pulled the axe from the locker as Dokkaebi and Maverick stepped around the corner seeing the situation.
Wamai tried to pull himself away from me as I stepped closer lifting the axe and swinging down burying it into his collarbone watching him cough up blood as I hit a lung. I heard Dokkaebi ask "how many of your men are left?" I replied "just me" Maverick looked alarmed as I said "pushing these bastards cost a lot" as I reloaded my pistol and shot Wamai 4 more times. I pulled my knife from his thigh and stabbed him in the throat 5 times making sure he died as I breathed heavily, I looked around the room and saw over 30 dead people, 9 of which were my men. I looked at Dokkaebi and Maverick, "I guess I'm running with you now" I heard Zofia "what about your men?" I looked at them once more and said "we'll get em when we finish securing" I heard Hunter on comms "all bluefor, be advised we have Mask reinforcements are coming down the mountain from the north" I heard Harry reply "the A10s are taxiing as we speak, they'll be on target in 20 minutes"
I asked Dokkaebi "where are we heading?" She replied "we have to take the Armory and then do a final sweep." I sighed and reloaded my car before motioning to the door "Lead the way" we started walking out and I saw Achilles on the floor in the room I had fallen into at the beginning of the gunfight. Dokkaebi asked "are you gonna be okay?" I nodded as I stared at Achilles, His eyes were wide and glassed over and his arms were around the gunshot wounds in his chest. We went down the stairs and I saw Boar halfway out a window with a cavity in his stomach from a 12 gauge shotgun. I sighed as Ash spoke "I'm sorry for your loss" I replied in monotone "don't be, they died how we all want to. In a gunfight, balls out taking enemies with em." Kapkan asked "did you make them pay?" I nodded solemnly and our talk ended when we reached the door. I got a nod from Maverick and lifted my car as he pulled the door and I stepped outside. I scanned with my rifle in a low ready before I saw another team lead by Oxide getting ready to assault the armory.
I radioed "Oxide hold" as he froze and looked to his left when he heard my footsteps, I saw Dokkaebi and her group along with Maverick and his as I said "we're going with you" he nodded as I joined the stack at the rear before Spike asked "they're gone aren't they?" I knew what he was asking as I replied "yes, all of them" oxide asked "did you atleast get Wamai?" I nodded as I saw the breaching charge get set up. I ordered "tighten it up" as the breaching charge was detonated and the door flew in. We rushed in catching the masks completely off guard as 30 plus operators rushed into the room firing. I spun and held the door as I heard gunshots until Oxide called "clear!" Followed by 4 more clears. We walked out relaxing now that everything had been secured, I radioed "All 6-4 teams, consolidate on the west wall and clear this base. I want to know every enemy is gone. We'll get our casualties to a CCP after" as I looked to my left and saw Hunter walking gracefully towards me, I saw her look around for my team. I knew why.
She asked "where's your team?" I replied softly "they're gone" she took a step back as I spoke "the second group broke through and we got engaged from the rear, it was a massacre." She asked tearfully "Did he die honorably?" I dipped my head "yeah, he threw himself on a grenade to save Reacher and I. He's in Valhalla" she smiled faintly as I ordered "go coordinate with Rainbow to set up defenses on the wall. Walk those A-10s onto target" she nodded and wiped her tears before jogging off. I sighed and looked around as Rainbow rushed to the walls to set up a defense as the Mask reinforcements arrived. I radioed "Atlas, take your division to the north wall. Reinforce rainbow there" I got a quickly "Wilco" as I started "alright my team- oh, yeah They're gone......" I looked around as I stood with my rifle hanging by my leg as I gripped the heat guard with my right hand. I saw people running all over the place as round snapped past me, I didn't feel any danger. The sounds of the battle turned to a dull humming of undistinguished noise until I got tackled.
The noise went back to sharp and clear as I looked down and saw Dokkaebi, I got grabbed by the chest plate straps as she yelled "what are you doing?!" I asked confusedly as my brows scrunched together "what do you mean?" She replied like it was obvious how stupid I was being "you're standing in the open with no cover without your gun up in the middle of an attack. What the hell are you doing?!" I blinked away my shock before replying "I don't know" she sighed and said "I thought you said you'd be okay?" I pushed myself up and brushed off my pants "yeah, yeah I'll be fine. Just got caught up in all the craziness" she looked unsure before sighing and saying "come on, the hogs are on station in 2" I walked out behind her and buried any emotions. This wasn't a time or place to feel sadness or anger about my team. This was a time to go out and do my job, I could mourn later. Dokkaebi threw worried glances back at me as we jogged to the wall.
