The four of them walked through the blinding light for some time, until it abruptly stopped shining and they found themselves in what appeared to be a massive green cathedral. Blinking and adjusting their optics and eyes, the Titan and Warlocks examined their surroundings. All around them was green mist, and in the distance, some sort of green planetoid or singularity loomed. Looking down, they spotted three platforms on the ground, not too different from the ones they encountered before. To their right was a grand staircase that led down, then turned, joining a path that led directly to the middle platform. Past that, however, lie an open expanse of nothingness. The chasam seemed to never end. On the other side, was an area very similar to where they were now, but with a staircase leading to a pair of grand doors, which were part of another massive citadel. There seemed to be a bridge connecting both areas at one point, but all that was left was splintered remains on their side.
Clay-19 ran ahead, seeming taken back at the lack of bridge.
“Dammit. That bridge was the only way across... “ He sat down, and drifted off in thought, thinking of ways to make his way across. As he did that, Dylan-10 remembered the Warlock’s ability to regenerate, and broadcasted a message through private comms to Raj.
“Hey, if say, something happened to you or Otal… Your Ghost could still revive you, right? Even here?” He asked, still observing his surroundings, trying not to make their conversation too obvious.
Rajan replied,“Theoretically, yes. But the Ghosts are in a weakened state as it is. I’d say maybe a seventy percent chance of revival. What’s running through that head of yours?”
Dylan-10 laughed and filled his teammate on the plan. Rajan straightened up and nodded his head in agreement. The Titan nodded his head as well, and started towards Otal. Before the Warlock could react, Dylan-10 had snatched his Ghost from his rucksack, tossed it up, and snapped Skylers neck. The Warlock disintegrated, and Dylan-10 caught the now falling Ghost, which in turn let out a beam, capturing Skyler’s light. Clay-19 turned around and jumped up, shocked, and held a knife at the Titan’s neck.
“What the hell was that?” He demanded.
Rajan pulled him off and filled him in on the plan. Bewildered, the Hunter simply shook his head and took a step back, not knowing what else to say.
Rajan handed the Titan his red Ghost, and too, fell under the Titan’s quick attack. His Ghost also absorbed the light from the fallen Guardian.
He walked down the stairs and approached the middle platform. Judging from what the missions reports said, stepping on the platforms summoned the Hive, so he circumvented the plate and walked towards the broken bridge and hefted one of the Ghosts. It was heavier than he thought, weighing in at around the same as a grenade. Perfect, he thought. He activated his jetpack, and flew straight up fifteen feet, and wound his arm back, and threw with all his might.
The white Ghost soared through the air, made impact with the platform on the other side, and bounced and skidded to a halt a few feet away from the plate. A handful of Thralls and a few Acolytes crawled out of the darkness and rushed the platform, but ignored the Ghost, instead looking for the guardian it belonged to. Another Ghost bounced and landed among the Hive.
Then in an instant blinding flash of light, two Guardians appeared among the now stunned hive. Emanating from them were flames burning bright, and wings of fire upon their backs, rising up from the ashes as Phoenix’s from legends old. Their combined light outright disintegrated many of the nearby thralls and a few of the Acolytes. The remaining Hive were slow to recover, and fell to fire. The Warlocks moved like possessed men, destroying hive with nothing more than waves of their hands, and fireballs that clung to the enemy. Within ten seconds they had dispatched the Hive around them. After the last had fallen, the flames writhing around them ceased to exist, and once more stood the two Warlocks, one garbed in black, the other garbed in blue.
